Sweden & Ecuador World Cup Squads Announced

By: WC Bob | May 9th, 2006 | No Comments »

The roster announcements are coming in fast and furious with Sweden and Ecuador revealing their provisional World Cup teams today. Manager Lars Lagerbäck has selected a veteran team that features eight players who have appeared 50 times or more for Sweden, while also throwing in a few surprises. We’re kind of excited by the prospect of seeing Zlatan Ibrahimovic paired up front with Ajax wunderkind Markus Rosenberg. We agree with most of you that Sweden will advance from Group B.

The Ecuador roster also includes a few surprises, including the mercurial forward Ivan Kaviedes who seems to switch club teams just about every other week. He’ll be a fun one to watch on and off the pitch in Germany.

We’d be lying if we said we were entirely familiar with the players selected since most of them play in Ecuador’s domestic league. Our czar of the Ecuador blog Trent knows a thing or three so you’ll want to check out his blog to get some top rate analysis that you won’t find anywhere else in English on the Web.
