South Korea Defeats Bosnia in First of Four Friendlies Today

By: WC Bob | May 26th, 2006 | No Comments »

Following a disappointing draw against Senegal earlier in the week, South Korea defeated Bosnia 2-0 in a World Cup warm-up match on Friday in Seoul. Seol Ki-hyeon headed in a goal in the 50th minute and Cho Jae-jin finished off the scoring with a last minute goal for the hosts. South Korea coach Dick Advocaat played most of his top players including Park Ji-sung and Lee Young-pyo. The Taeguk Warriors head to Scotland tomorrow to continue their training camp.

In a few hours the Czech Republic faces Saudi Arabia. This will be my first chance to Saudi Arabia in a few years so I will be interested in seeing how they compete with one of the tournament’s big boys.

Also today, Ghana takes on Turkey. Ghana’s World Cup preparations have been a mess thus far, but today’s match will be the first time since qualifying that the Black Stars have their full compliment of players in place, including midfielder Michael Essien.

Later on tonight the United States squares off against Venezuela. The US is looking to rebound from a somewhat poor performance against Morocco earlier in the week. Tim Howard gets the start in goal so expect a lot of swearing. Daryl will be doing a liveblog on the USA Blog during the match so stop on by and leave your thoughts while the game is happening.

Results this week:

South Korea 1 Senegal 1

Croatia 4 Austria 1
Morocco 1 United States 0
Paraguay 2 Norway 2
Ecuador 1 Colombia 1
Australia 1 Greece 0
Sweden 0 Finland 0

If you are the gambling type, you can actually bet on the international friendlies. I wish you good luck with that endeavor.
