Slacker World Cup Coaches Sweat as Roster Deadline Looms
Even in the dark, dank basement cubicle that I share with five other people at World Cup Blog headquarters, I can feel the excitement as the various World Cup rosters are released. Fans in countries across the globe are checking their team’s lists and arguing with one another about whether the right decisions have been made. By my unofficial count, more than half the teams still haven’t made their roster selections public. This means there is going to be a very competitive race for this World Cup’s Slacker Coach Award.
FIFA has set a May 15 deadline for roster submission. When I was in school facing this kind of deadline for a paper, I would usually start thinking about it at midnight on May 14. I get the feeling that some of the coaches this year approach life the same way.
So which coach will be the last one to make his list public?
It won’t be any of these guys. They’ve already announced their provisional sides (and we have the linked posts to prove it!).
Trinidad and Tobago
Costa Rica
England
Mexico
Netherlands
Ecuador
United States
Sweden
Spain
Iran
Australia
It probably won’t be any of these teams since they have let us know when they will be announcing their rosters.
Angola
Argentina
Portugal
France
Germany
We’re thinking the Slacker Coach Award will go to one of these countries since we don’t actually know when they will make their roster announcement.
Brazil
Cote d’Ivoire
Croatia
Czech Republic
Ghana
Italy
Japan
South Korea
Saudi Arabia
Paraguay
Poland
Switzerland
Togo
Tunisia
Ukraine
Who’s going to reveal their roster last? I”ll be locked in the dank, dark basement cubicle holding my breath waiting to find out.

I read somewhere that La Volpe has released his 2010 roster “just to be safe”.

Scolari will announce the portuguese roster at 8 Pm on may 15. If you count the local time, he could be the last one, although it will be in the middle of the afternoon in the US

I think Italy will win this award.

Just based on time zones it might be Brazil. That would be funny, first team to name it’s starting 11 will be the last to name it’s offical 23!
