Serbia goalkeeper Dragoslav Jevric Retires in Fine Fashion

When last we saw Dragoslav Jevric, he was busy picking the ball out of the net as his Serbia and Montenegro team was scored on again and again in the World Cup. Jevric, who gave up 10 goals in helping his team to a last place finish, has announced his retirement from international football following a dispute with new Serbia coach Javier Clemente and the Serbia Football Federation (FSS).

The marginal keeper was upset that he was not told ahead of time that we would not be starting in Wednesday’s friendly against the Czech Republic. A game, by the way, that Serbia won 3-1.

“The FSS and the coach are ridiculous and they handled this like real amateurs. They could have at least told me before the match and I will not play for the national team again after this,” Jevric told Belgrade daily Blic.

“I couldn’t believe they confined me to the bench and it was done in a humiliating and disgraceful manner. I can walk away with my head up high.”

Yes, blasting your coach and football federation upon your retirement that only came about because you didn’t play in a match is indeed something that would make any player walk away with his head held high. At least we’ll always have those memories of Jevric’s backside in the World Cup.
