Sepp Blatter thinks 2018 World Cup should be in North America

Every couple of weeks FIFA head honcho Sepp Blatter crawls out of his undisclosed cave to give his thoughts on the world’s game. Today he weighed in on who should host the 2018 World Cup, something both England and the United States covet. Making sure to cover all the bases, Blatter said he thinks it should go to North America although it could also go to Asia or Europe.

“If the FIFA executive committee decides later this year that the rotation policy is maintained, in strict procedure it should be in North America in 2018 and there are three countries who could host it there — the United States, Mexico and Canada,” Blatter told a media briefing.

Blatter also mentioned China as a potential candidate. This kind of competition surely pleases FIFA. Think of all the possibilities for site junkets and kickbacks!

Blatter also talked about a special compensation fund that has been established to help clubs whose players were injured during the 2006 World Cup. He pointed out that those no good greedy bastards from Newcastle want an unfair portion of the funds because they lost some miniscule player named Michael Owen for the season. Newcastle have been paid 50,000 pounds ($97,940) a week in compensation by the English FA towards Owen’s salary costs but the club submitted a separate claim to FIFA for 6.2 million pounds.

“We set up a special fund for injuries to players for all 32 participants of the competition with a total of 15 million Swiss francs ($12.31 million) available for everybody,” FIFA president Sepp Blatter told a media briefing in London on Wednesday

“…it was perhaps to mainly help the likes of Angola or Ivory Coast, those countries playing in the World Cup for the first time,” he added.

“But if you look at who is asking for money then something is wrong because it’s from the richest league in the world.”

After pissing off most of England, Blatter returned to his cave.

No European World Cup until 2022?

Even I find that absurd.

It ain’t gonna happen. What Europe wants, Europe gets … just ask South Africa, and with Platini running UEFA forget it, Blatter’s remarks are a bit premature!!!

What are you talking about, everyone BUT europe gets what they want. It would probably be Mexico, why would anyone want to go to America to watch “soccer”?! it needs to be somewhere where under 21s can drink! although i will be 32 by then.

Errrr wrong! South Africa should have won the 2006 bid, but the fact is Europe wanted it and they got it – just one example among many; what makes them formidable is that they have 8 voting members in the 24 man committee it’s not hard for them to find 5 more, even 4 to vote in their favour, and win. F.Y.I. America had the largest attendance of any world cup to date, and it was done without the lure of booze – so everyone would love to come to America!!!

Right on Kahuru. What the world cup needs is more drunk English fans roaming around. If England doesn’t get the world cup in our life time it could be because of their drunk hooligans.

Don’t forget Kahuru the golden rule “Who has the gold makes the rules” and Europe does have a lot of that and I don’t mean Krugerrands.

Hello to you all!

It doesn’t really matter where the World Cup will be held, even if the FIFA decided to go in Antarctica or Arctica or even in
a space above earth or below in the ocean – it will remain the most popular and most watch and attend sport event in the world.

I feel that Australia deserve more than England.

Then it shouldn’t matter if England host it before Australia now should it; going by what you are saying?

Since I live like an hour away from the States, I would love for it to be there. Or better yet, here in Canada! As long as I get my seat in the stadium. However, China sounds nice as well.

It’s our turn! It will be 24 years since the last N. America WC (1994) and only 12 years for Europe (2006) plus they had just had it 8 years before! As a Mexican-American I would be extremely happy with either USA or Mexico hosting, however it would be nice to watch the final in my backyard (Rose Bowl). I think probably the USA would win the bid because Mexico already has hosted it twice, unless Canada can really prove that they have the stadiums to pull it off. In the end, however, I agree with the gentleman above, they can host it in Antartica and it will be a success. As for me, I am planning to attend every single World Cup until the day I die, so bring it on anywhere!
