Sepp Blatter Declares World War

By: WC Bob | March 27th, 2006 | 4 Comments »

Somebody get that man some prune juice! The president of FIFA’s kleptocracy is just a wee bit miffed at the equally greedy group of European clubs called the G14 (despite having 18 members). In a new conference today in Tunisia in between golf rounds, Sepp Blatter said there would be hell to play if the G14 clubs refuse to release their players for international competition. Rather than writing our usual rant against Mr. Blatter and FIFA we decided to instead simply provide his noteworthy quotes on the subject. You can read them and then decide if he is crazy or if he is insane. We vote for constipated.

“If they (G14) want a world war, they will get it,” said a fired-up Blatter at a press conference. “It is ok to adopt resolutions but you have to also create a means of sanctioning.”

“Sanctioning should operate in this way: if a G-14 club refuses to release a player for an international match, they should no longer have the right to compete in international club tournaments. It is like racism, it must be punished or it can do harm,” said Blatter.

“This problem is insoluble,” concluded Blatter. “FIFA has started an informal dialogue with G14 but how can you come to an amicable solution when one of the two parties is suing the other?”

“European clubs have pillaged the African continent,” said Blatter. “They have taken the best footballing talents. Now they refuse to make these players available to African clubs, and if they do, they want to be paid. The world has gone crazy!”

Well, Blatter is the worst soccer manager I have ever heard of. However I agree that the G-14 request are also insane. They clame to loose money with the players but they don’t consider all the money they make after a player gets called to play for their contries.

Do you remember Russian Salenko? He was transferred to Valencia for a big amount of money after scoring 5 goals in one match in the 94 WC.

What about the Italian Toto Schillaci, 90 WC topscorer? What about Diouf?

Of course that when it came to Ronaldo or Van Nistelrooy doesn’t make a difference anymore. They are already big stars. But even Ronaldo got famoust after been called for the Brazilian squad when he was only 17. And he was sold to Inter by U$20 mil. after the 96 Olympics.

The clubs are complaning about nothing. They are just greedy and they wan’t more money. Maybe they should think twice before spending U$ 100 mil. in the new kid on the block.

This request is outrageous

Everyone is acting in their own interest and therefore everyone else is crazy.

This is suites and money talking. These are not the fans, not the backbone. Yes, I always love to see Eto’o play for Barcelona, but if he is representing Cameroon, well I do my best to watch Cameroon. I will go where the player goes to watch his or her contribution to the game.

Clubs shut up, and let your players represent, you are not losing anything in the long run. Ouch in the short, you don’t have a player for a game, you have to make do when they are injured. Stop crying. If the players want to go, they should be allowed. If they don’t want to, they will stay.

Clubs, you are the ones being the evil empire. Bravo for Darth G14.

Blatter is finally right about something, although a bit obtuse in equating the problem with racism.

Clubs need to give the international game props for shining a light on some of their star players, either in discovery or as free commerical advertisement.

[...] In a bit of a surprise move, FIFA is working on a plan that would compensate football clubs for injuries that occur to their players while they are on international duty. You’ll recall that this issue came to the forefront when a group of rich European teams banded together to sue the pants off of the world’s football governing body over the very issue. There’s always been tension between clubs and countries and even if a compromise is reached that will still likely be the case, but from our perspective it would be a move in the right direction for both parties.
