Send Some Candy to Martin Demichelis ASAP
How much does it mean for a player to be called upon to represent his country at the World Cup? For Martin Demichelis it means everything. The Bayern Munich midfielder is beyond devastated that he was not included on Argentina’s World Cup squad. “It’s not only that I don’t have any desire to play anymore – I don’t have any desire to live,” Demichelis told an Argentine television network.
Even my cynical, heartless self feels a bit sorry for the guy. His bio says that he is witty, calm and big hearted, three character traits never used to describe me.
I still feel pains in my stomach every time I remember the day when I seven and I didn’t make the traveling team in my town. It was a devastating day that led to years and years of therapy, and a whole lot of candy consumption that has led to a lifetime of dental hell.
It wasn’t until recently that I learned that I was hampered from the very beginning because of my June birth date. Now I feel better about my shortcomings. Demichelis should too. He was born in December, a tough, tough birth month if you harbor professional football dreams.
I think I’ll send him a card and some candy to help cheer him up. He might not have a World Cup to look forward to, but playing for Bayern Munich isn’t a bad gig. It isn’t quite the same as being a professional blogger, but not everyone can be so blessed.
Send your good wishes to:
