Scolari Withdraws, Lineker’s Granny New No. 1 Candidate

By: WC Bob | April 28th, 2006 | 8 Comments »

Just when you thought the England coaching search drama would be put to bed, along comes news that the search for the next Sven will continue to go on. At a news conference today, Luiz Felipe Scolari said thanks, but no thanks to mother England. “The English FA is going to choose a name,” Scolari said. “But my name isn’t one of them because I’m closing this matter here. I was very pleased they considered me, but definitely at this time I want to draw a line under this matter.”

As we wrote yesterday, the England job kinda sucks and Scolari found that out the hard way:

“I don’t want anything more to do with this England matter because in the space of two days … my life was invaded, my privacy was disrupted,” he admitted. “Today there are still 20 reporters outside my home.”

So the search goes on and there really can only be one logical candidate: Gary Lineker’s granny. The woman has mad coaching skills and we hear she bakes a mean scone.

The man’s got some sense. The press here have been firing off at him all week and the ‘Little Englanders’have been having palpitations at the thought of another foreigner managing England.

They’ll end up picking Steve McLaren and the papers will rip him to shreds after the first defeat.

Hilarious. The only thing that would make it better is if each tabloid attacks their competitors, claiming it was them that drove him away.

Steve McLaren is favourite to take the job but I would prefer Sam Allardyce. I dont see them winning any trophies though

Really, why did they put everyone through this BEFORE the World Cup? Who needs the distractions? THat said, I don’t think the FA will come up with a better candidate than Big Phil.

I’m glad he saw sense! Scolari’s reputation would have been destroyed … just like Sven.

This whole thing was English media hype. I love to see England lose … just to see how the media react!

There must be some red-faced official at the Soho Square currently. First they almost appoints Steve Mclaren only to realise that nobody likes him. But now once they go for the favourite candidate (Scolari), he snubbed them. Totally hillarious
