Ronaldo Slams Pele, Platini

By: WC Bob | March 12th, 2006 | 11 Comments »

Rolando UpsetWatching the very public breakdown of Ronaldo is both sad and entertaining. It is sad because I’ve always enjoyed the guy as a player and would like to see him in top form this summer. It is entertaining because he continues to come up with some great quotes and beacause soap opera-type drama is always good a few months before the World Cup. Today he targeted Pele, again, as well as French legend Michel Platini. Of Pele who has vocally criticized Ronaldo’s play and personal life, he said: “I was disappointed with Pele, he’s a two-bob opportunist.”

As a one Bob opportunist, I can relate.

Ronaldo also had these words to say about Platini: “I care nothing for Platini. I have a French teammate friend (Zinedine Zidane) who has surpassed everything he ever did and he has always told me that Platini is jealous.”

After slamming these two legends, Ronaldo still had enough breath to make this proclamation: “At the World Cup, I will make a lot of people eat their words.”

I hope he is right. I’ve been really hungry all day today.

On a somewhat serious note, isn’t it about time for someone from Brazil to sit down with Ronaldo and point out that these types of outbursts aren’t doing him or his national team the least bit of good?

As somebody in the British press said after Arsenal played Real Madrid in the second leg, ‘Real brought all the Galaticos and some bloke from the Dog and Duck’.

He needs to shed a few pounds beford June.

Im surprised pele would say such about his fellow country man. I do respect Pele a great deal but i dont think he should be talking that way about Ronaldo who has been through alot in his career and over come so much hardship along the way. Ronaldo basically won the 2002 world cup single handley, but ever one like to talk negatively about the bad things that Ronaldo does how about looking at his achievements
before criticizing him. As as for Platini…Who are you anways…i dont even know who you are first of all and i know my soccer history pretty well…that just goes to show you that your not even on Ronaldo’s level so i dont think you have a righ to slam him. The thing people have to remeber is that Ronaldo was the most prolific prodigies in the history of soccer since Pele…at the mear age of 18 and 19 he was dubbed the greatest player in the world and likely to take over Pele’s rain as the best ever…anybody who plays soccer knows that tp be the greatest in the world at the age of 18 is a nearly impossoble dream…most players reach there peaks in the mid 20’s or early 30’s. for that reason alone Ronaldo as proved time and time again that he is the best player in the world and he will win the golden boot for the 2006 fifa world cup…and all you jealous haters will eat your words soon enough!!

1) They are translations!!! Neither you and I have the expertise to discover how graceful the comments are in Spanish.

2) Peles is relgious and he wants Ronaldo to settle down – his remarks were driven from that.

3) Pele routinely makes controversial statements. He offends far more people than ronaldo.

Well, first of all…ronaldo is the best. Pele is over rated. Personally i am getting tired of him showing off like he is the all time king of soccer. The play has improved since then….and while i respect him…he is not great enough to dismiss the greatest STRIKER of all time Ronaldo. Honestly…..i will repeat what others have said before…Ronaldo beat Germany…it wasn’t brazil. No one has been as calm infront of the net like this great man….and if i were a great of the past he wold be my nightmare…why?…..well because he would be replacing me. I can see why pele never talks about Ronaldo anymore…because he realizes that in 2002 he shut the whole world up and sent them packing when he proved with no doubts….HE IS THE GREATEST STRIKER EVER.

Before critisizing the KING “Pele” tell what did he say wabout Ronaldo word for word. All the article said was he critisized hhim, which fair and square and you gotta expect it when you are a public figure. But, calling Pele overrated than you are either *** or know nothing about the man. Ronaldo is the greatest striker of our time, but not the greatest player. Pele was a complete player and will be the KING in any era. Dgi it?

C’mon guys, cant we all just get along?? If you claim to be a football historian of sorts and never heard of Platini, then i suggest you hit the books again.
Pele is like the Muhammad Ali of football. King surely, but just like Ali, thanks largely in due part to the media. He has done, undoubtedly, many great things for football. And just like Ali, Pele, tends to talk, perhaps not so tough-like, but talks nonetheless.
However, the greatest of all time? That is something that will get debated till Judgment Day come. Some may argue for Maradona, yet others will say Franz Beckenbauer. I can still remember when Beckenbauer threw on a sling to continue playing after having suffered from a dislocated shoulder in the semifinal game which, unfortunately, they lost to Italy in 1970. That was truly heroic and worthy of a king in my book.
My theory is that Pele and the other greats dont want to see their legacy surpassed. Kind of like what we see in baseball with Barry Bonds.
I have been following Ronaldo for a very long time and he has truly cemented his place amongst football’s greatest. After this Cup he will have the record for the most goals and no one will be able to deny his legacy. Ronaldo is a public figure and in spite of that fact, everyone should give him their dues rather than criticize. I’m sure he’ll shut everyone up for good this time around.

Who Cares about Brazil they are a bunch of big egos! No defence, no goalie, and no team work. Pretty hard on the eyes to.

I think there are many players that were at Pele’s level, but he is the first of his kind so it wont even be taken into account. Brazil who?!

FORZA AZZURI 06, sorry France even with your give away penalty score, Zidan, Theiry “Moan about racism” Henry, scarface and headbutting and you still couldn’t get the job done. EL BUFFO!!

Brazil? Lets see no defense what so ever…Toni, Zambrotta, Camoranesi, Totti, Del Piero, and about the whole Italian bench was capable of scoring on them I wish they played each other, because Italy’s defence and offence and Brazil’s lack of defense and huge egos…Who knows maybe 4-0!!Italia
