Red and Yellow Citations of the Week
With only 120 days to go, the World Cup is right around the corner. Ok, maybe not, but the Holy Grail is in sight and World Cup Blog is fired up. We are so fired up that we feel the need to issue red and yellow cards to some of the big stories that happened this past week.
Red card to Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari’s plans to take English lessons to improve his chances for the England gig. Since when have England’s footballers ever spoken English? I swear, listening to Wayne Rooney speak is like hearing another language entirely. Big Phil shouldn’t worry. The Sheikhs can probably speak Portuguese anyway.
Last week we issued a yellow card to the King of Predictions Pele. This week it is only fair that we do the same with the Kaiser of Predictions Franz Beckenbauer.
On the subjection of predictions, yellow card to World Cup Blog (Hey, it’s our blog we can caution ourselves). Seems we are in the business of forecasting winners and losers too. Pity the nicknames the King and the Kaiser have already been taken. We could sure use one.
Yellow card to fans in Guinea for taking to the streets to celebrate after rumors spread that their team could still advance in the African Nations Cup because of a disallowed goal by Senegal. At World Cup Blog, we love any excuse for a party but usually we only burn cars and loot when our team actually wins.
Yellow card to referees looking as good as the ones featured on our referees blog.
Red card to illegal fun. While England’s players might pay the price for their indulgences, Pele’s son shows that you do the crime you must do the time.
Yellow card to fans in Croatia who are worried about their team’s recent third place finish in a tournament in Hong Kong. Not to worry, says our blogger Edogg, whose opinion I trust with my life.
Yellow card to people in Saudi Arabia and Trinidad and Tobago who after their teams are eliminated this summer will use the excuse that their teams weren’t properly prepared. With solid friendlies lined up both sides should be battle tested come Germany.
