Portugal Players have Bad Taste in Counterfeit Films

A couple of players on Portugal’s World Cup team are being investigated for allegedly bringing pirated movies to the team’s training camp. This is a minor scandal at best, but since it is the World Cup we might as well make it into a huge deal. Benefica striker Nuno Gomes is reported to have brought copies of Basic Instinct 2 and Mission Impossible 3, a pair of movies not yet out on DVD. Both movies are said to suck according to my friends with pirated copies. Midfielder Armando Petit is reported to have had a copy of The Producers in his bag, which was a much better play than a movie. Both players could face legal troubles, but there is no way Sharon Stone is going to ruin Portugal’s chances in Germany. She’s not that devious in the sequel.

With all due respect to yahoo news and etc, this looks like they didn’t have anything better to write about…

Anyway, I didn’t see BI II nor MI III – for I was told, they are indeed crap films. But hey… The guys are preparing for the WC. Don’t feed them Ingmar Bergman!!! Sharon Stone sounds just perfect… ;-)

  • Pembroke

Should they be watching Sharon Stone movies if they aren’t allowed to have sex during training? I was going to bet on Portugal but now I don’t know :-)

  • Luis

Too funny. Portuguese bureaucrats with nothing better to do. That’s a dangerous thing. The last time we had bored bureaucrats, it led to 50 years of fascism.

Why not have FIFA distribute a list of pre-approved movies. I’m sure the guys haven’t seen “The Sound of Music” in a while.

  • Mesto

I’ve seen M3. It is absymal. If Portugal loses early I would blame Tom Cruise.

  • Luis

Speaking of piracy…does anyone know if there is any coverage at all (web or otherwise) of the U-21 Euro that kicks off in Portugal today?

  • Ceasar Lourenco

Like Pedro said, must have been a very very slow news day. I haven’t seen Basic Instinct II (nor do I plan to) but I have seen MI3. And now I’m really worried about Portugal’s chances. :-(
Tom Cruise is enough to make even Pele go into a slump!!!! :-)

Watching those movies would, I believe, be its own punishment.

Why is it that you never hear about people getting busted with pirated copies of, say, “The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie”?

Now that would be an interesting football scandal.

Luis, The U21 matches will be broadcast on Setanta Sports. Setanta is located on channel 615 for Directv subscribers in the San Francisco, CA market but may be located somewhere else in other markets.

Portugal vs. France later this afternoon……Forca Portugal!!!

  • http://portugal.worldcupblog.org Luis

Maybe Petit is caring the first version of The Producers.

  • Luis

Thanks Beto. Unfortunately, I have Dish Network and not DirectTV. :-( They don’t even have a PPV option for this event. It’s too bad RTP is too cheap to purchase the rights and broadcast this event.

  • Luis

For all those DISH or PPV challenged, you can follow live audio coverage of the France vs. Portugal U21 game with Antenna 1. FYI, this online audio feed is in Portuguese and requires a *.wmv player.

Haha, always a controversy, at least this one is is semi-laughable.

    FORCA PORTUGAL !!!

  • Mauro

Really, Portugal won’t lose because of a god damn movie.
Although i don’t agree whit piracy, why the f**k be sop worked up whit two crappy movies?
    =D
    Really…
    That is laughtable.

    FORÇA PORTUGAL!
NA DEIXEM QUE ESSES BOMBISTAS VOS FAÇAM PERDER, CARAGO!
