Polish Hooligans Kick off Campaign with German Friendly

By: WC Bob | January 24th, 2006 | 4 Comments »

At World Cup Blog, we usually skip stories about hooligans. It is not that we aren’t interested in them, but rather it is because we know that we are the baddest group of keyboard jockeys out there and nothing hooligans do can impress us.

But there was a recent hooligan-related story that did catch out eye.

Germany’s Der Spiegel newspaper reports that rival packs of hooligans from across Poland are banding together to cause mayhem at the World Cup this summer. Described in the article as “car thieves, doormen, petty thieves or dealers,” Poland’s hooligans are said to be organizing so that they can show that they are as bad ass as their counterparts in England, Holland, Germany and WorldCupBlog.org.

Like the football teams that will take part in the tournament, the Polish hooligans have been busy lining up a schedule of friendlies so that they can work themselves into shape. In December, for example, Polish and German hooligans reportedly took part in a pre-scheduled 100-man mass brawl in a forest near the Polish border in East Germany.

And just like the US-Canada friendly on Sunday, this one wasn’t televised so we are only left to speculate who performed well and who did not.

polish hooligans are no more notorious than their counterparts in western europe. why target poles? and why entice violence with articles such as “car thieves, doormen, petty thieves or dealers”? I’m very calm by nature, but this sort of an article makes my blood boil as well.

POLISH hooligans will be carrying knives, axes, meat cleavers, baseball bats and 3ft-long rubber truncheons filled with sand.
The level of violence in the former Eastern bloc country is worse than the dark days of English hooliganism in the 1980s. We R ready guy’s and is thousands of us !!! ENGLAND IS OUR TARGET ON THIS WORLD CUP… maybe not my because I’m not going :P … but I watch everything on the tv… :D Maybe we will not win a football world cup but our hooligans will totaly rock this party!!!!!!!!!!!!
