Pigs Out, Brazil In, Bids Up

The small Swiss town of Weggis is going out of its way to make Brazil’s national team feel welcome as they prepare for the World Cup. In addition to building a training ground with a pitch built perfectly to World Cup specifications, the town has removed more than 300 pigs to prevent the tournament favorites from being exposed to any unpleasant olfactory experiences. After seeing this news we wondered how it has affected the bidding for the right to stay in the players’ hotel rooms after they check out.

As you would expect, the prospects of being able to stay in luxury without breathing pig shit all day and night has led to some increased bidding.

The bid for Ronaldinho’s bed is unchanged at 507 Swiss Francs, but the rooms used by Kaka and Adriano have finally cracked the 100 Swiss Francs mark, still a bargain given the hotels normal rates, which suddenly seem outrageous considering their proximity to a smelly farm.

It is also worth noting that more than 100 countries have bought the rights to broadcast the team’s training sessions with Brazilian television even arranging for several live transmissions. Somehow we think those Nike commercials will be slightly more fun to watch than Ronaldinho stretching, but we’ll still probably tune in.

[...] Finally, there is Brazil. We’ve already reported about the efforts of the Swiss town where they are training to remove the stench of pigs. But did you know that millions of people around the world are watching Brazil train live on television? Aragones is probably not one of them considering the colors that Brazil wears, but you can bet the broadcasts are being followed closely by a few folks in Croatia, Australia and Japan.
