Parreira Steps Down. What Next For Brazil?
Carlos Alberto Parreira has finally stepped down as coach of Brazil, three weeks after their disappointing World Cup exit. The big question for Brazil is: what next?
With first choice replacement Big Phil Scolari rejecting an offer to take over (he’s signed with Portugal until 2008) neither of Parreira’s likely successors inspire much confidence. Vanderlei Luxemburgo has already been fired from the position once, while Paulo Autuori has already had an usuccessful spell in charge of Peru. An announcement is expected before the scheduled August 16th friendly against Norway.

Brazil won’t have no problem getting a new coach. Maybe Klinsi should send in his resume. How is his Portoguese?

Good for football and Brazil.
Parreira was a big diappointment as a coach this time. Too conservative for my taste.

Im happy that Scolari rejected the ofer. he knows he can win with Brazil and already has. He wants something more from life now and that’s admirable.
Brazil seems to be on a bit of a downward spiral now. I predict they wont be in the #1 spot for too much longer…

I am afraid you may be right Adam.
I think they are entering a phase like that between 1970 and 1994.
This time they were too overconfident. It may be a while before they win again. In 82 and 86 they atleast played good football and lost great classic games. This time they were the biggest disappointment of the tournament.

What next for Brazil?
A new coach and new team, otherwise it will be downhill all the way.

I dont know if i could say brazil is in the downside, because as long as you produce players you could always compete. Coaching will come and go. Brazils weakest link i think is ronaldinho, I know he is a great player, now doubt about it. He is one of the best. He does a lot of cute tricks, but seriously, isnt KAKA better for brazil?????? Ronaldinho plays so hard to to get injured, it makes me sick. I am an Argentinian fan, but mannn do i wish Kaka was argentinian. He truelly is great, juninho was also good. Instead of the talk being about ronaldos weight it should have been about ronaldinho. he was by far the most disapointing player in the WC. what did he do????? brazil will always be one of the top two or three teams in the world just because of the classy players they produce. If you remember, brazil won in 94 thanks to bebeto, in 98 and 02 their anchor was rivaldo. Brazil is lacking those type of players. one who does the relentless work in the middle, kaka and juninho would have done that.
This is not me being bias but I think Argentina will be dominant for the next 8 years or so. There wont be a team that will match the talents of Messi, Tevez and the new kid Aguero. Mascherano, Gago, maxi Rodriguez, cambiasso, aimar, still add in riquelme, heinze, Gabriel Palleta, Rodriguez, zaplatta, wow who will top this list.
I think they will start their domination next year in venezuela

Why Pele not trying his hands on coaching ???

Jesus, with Pelé coaching I think a civil war would start.
Well, there has been a lot of names being considered for the new coach position. Scolari was one of them, but he has already said he wants to be at Portugal at least for another two years, while his children (who adapted well to Portugal) finish school. Luxemburgo was another, but CBF rejected it because the guy has a lot of legal issues on his back (he could have to face house arrest for 5 years! he is appealing for that decision) and would be a constant source of issues. A lot of people hate him too.
Using a foreign coach is virtually impossible. They don’t even consider the idea.
One of the strongest candidates right now (according to the press) is Paulo Autuori, and he’s on Kashima Antlers (Japan).
One way or the other, CBF wants the new coach to get rid of all the ‘oldies’ on the team. According to some ’sources’, even Ronaldo has to go, regardless of how he plays. Which, in a way, is good; there’s way too many good guys appearing who didn’t even have a chance on the team because they were not big “stars” on europe before this WC. The next few years will test these guys, other good guys like Cicinho and Robinho will get more experience, and I can expect a good team on 2010.

my advice to brazil is break open the bank and do what is required to lure marcello lippi.
is there a better coach than him out there? maybe equal but not better

Marcelo Lippi is older. I dont think he wants that stress anymore hense why he has resigned; Im sure Italy wouldve paid good money for him but i guess he just didnt want it. Sometimes ppl jus reach the climax of their life and are satisfied and i think that’s what happened to him.
Argentina should be pretty dominant soon. They SHOULDVE been dominant this tournament but i definately dont agree with the coaching. Pekerman took out all the players who were doing such aamzing work in the Germany game for what reason?! And then he didnt have them for shootouts. And nobody knows why on Earth we heard such great things about Messi and one of the few times he played he scored and yet he was hardly ever played!!! Including the all important germany team where he was clearly needed. But Argentina should do well pretty soon. Same thing with Spain. I am watching that team a lot… they have something in store for us all i think…

Has Pele ever coached any team before? I wonder if he’d be any good, i think he would just b/c he seems to have a level head on his shoulders and could probably inspire the players better than anyone.
I think they need to let the young players play and get rid of the old guys…if they had played the likes of robinho more in this WC, Brazil would have done alot better. The young ones usually have something to prove so they tend to give more. Brazil will always produce good teams but unless they get a decent coach, they prob wont dominate again for awhile. After watching them this WC, i think Argentina will dominate the next decade.
