My Team Lost the World Cup and all I got was this Lousy T-shirt
Just how easily can the support of Germany fans be bought? We might just get an answer to that on Wednesday in Dortmund when Germany plays the United States in a friendly that has more significance than most this time of year. To head off a potentially hostile reception from the home crowd towards the much maligned and painfully bad home team, German football officials are planning on distributing 11,000 t-shirts that read: “You for us and we for you.”
In addition to these stylish and inspiring shirts, a free training session featuring guest resident Jurgen Klinsmann and the German team will be open the day before the match at the stadium. The fan who can do their best Klinsmann California surfer dude impression will walk away with a dinner for two with Oliver Kahn.
All of this is being done as part of an effort to convince the German public that the 3% who actually believe Germany can win the World Cup are not completely off their rockers.
Said German football president Theo Zwanziger, “The fans must be allowed to speak out and criticism is welcome but when the game starts, they must all stand behind the team.”
At World Cup Blog our support can’t be bought with a mere t-shirt. Throw in a free beer or two and we might be open for discussions.
