Mexico Name Final World Cup Roster

By: WC Bob | April 3rd, 2006 | 4 Comments »

When I was a pupil about 75 years ago I remember there were always people in my class who turned in their homework assignments days ahead of time. I wasn’t one of them. I usually waited until the last possible moment if I even got the work done at all. I mention this because yesterday Mexico coach Ricardo La Volpe announced the 26-man provisional squad he will be taking to Germany. Making the other coaches look like bunch of slackers, he made the announcement a full month and a half ahead of the May 15 deadline. It is worth noting that the 37-year-old Emperor, Claudio Suarez, has made the selection, giving hope to old timers everywhere, while Cuauhtemoc Blanco and his magical white boots will be at home reading World Cup Blog and only wondering what could have been.

Is this because La Volpe’s in danger of dying at any moment? Everytime I see him in games he’s smoking or looks like he should be smoking. I can’t imagine what the guy’s house smells like.

I cannot understand, that he left out Cuauh. I think that are personal reasons. with Blanco, they would have a clear opportunity in attack but now, they`re style of play is quite foreseeable.

You have to remember this is not the Cuauh from 98 or 02. Mexico did quite well in the Confederations without Cuauh. I understand he is injured at the moment and not performing very good. It could also be argued that his influence off the field might be bad for the team chemistry. Still, Lavolpe could have easily picked 27 instead of 26 just to give him a bit more time, but instead mentioned that a player with his capabilities doesn’t fit into his tactical scheme.
I’ll definitely miss watching him play…
