Messi Mania

By: WC Bob | February 24th, 2006 | 6 Comments »

Argentina’s Lionel Messi had a coming out party of sorts on Wednesday when his Barcelona team defeated Chelsea in the Champions League. It hasn’t exactly been a secret that the guy is good, but judging from the reactions on our Argentina blog and elsewhere on the Internet, people are starting to see that the 18-year-old wunderkid might just have what it takes to help Argentina this summer in Germany.

Messi and MaradonaA few weeks back I asked the question of who is better, Messi or Robinho. I went with Messi then. After watching both players this week, there’s no question that the Argentine is displaying much better form at the moment.

If I had a dollar for every time someone has labeled a player the “next Maradona” I would be a rich man by now. But from what I have seen of Messi he looks like he has that special talent that will make him a force in international football for years to come. if Messi is indeed the leader of the next generation, then it certainly will be a fun one to watch.

Don’t think Messi is Jose Mourinho’s favourite right now. The Special One said after Chelsea lost to Barcelona,’can Messi be suspended for acting? Barcelona is a cultural city with many great theatres and this boy has learned very well. He’s learned play-acting’, along with ‘how do you say cheating in Catalan’.
