Make Your Quarter-Finals Predictions

By: WC Bob | June 28th, 2006 | 227 Comments »

After some not so great predictions in the first round, we rebounded nicely picking 6 of the 8 remaining teams. How did you do? Here are your predictions from before the tournament, as well as after the first round.

Whether you guessed wrong or right you still have time to redeem yourself by selecting the four teams that will make it to the semi-finals. The games are:

Argentina vs. Germany
Italy vs. Ukraine
England vs. Portugal
Brazil vs. France

I’m going to go with Argentina, England, Italy and Brazil.

What are your predictions?

Excuse me Tuguinha
“SPAIN has its HONOUR INTACT when Portugal is the laugh of the whole football world , go to your own blog and check it out, Divers!”

This is from ME not Esteban. this is not my blog but there is a page dedicated to the Portuguese fans, you’ll find it by clicking on your flag at the top of the page. I must warn you it stinks as you would expect but you will probably like it as you will be able to debate in your lingo
Kind regards

It stinks? It stinks because you guys are giving us a lot of attention lately.

Germaine i dont need your applause, speacially from a woman that comes here to write only about others country… you must like me as i like you… =) Lets make a friendship hahaha

If you need to correct my early posts (there’re wrong?) go to the final blog, im going to be there now. I made my point in here… so… have fun.

I expect to see some of you guys in Algarve.

Cumps à rapaziada e beijos às que merecem (nao às putas).

I do not know if you will read this Tuga. And I am not sure what you mean in your last message, why writing to me if you address your message to Wood?
You are confused my friend!
To be honest you seem to be a descent guy, enjoy your game!
This is what the football media is doing to us supporter, turning us into m.o.r..o.n.s
I am fed up with the Football industry and media. It encourages Nationalism over Patriotism, Populism instead of people, stirs up hate between countries, xenophobia.
It pissed me off the other day as I was waiting to watch the Portugal France match on national on British television to hear a “journalist” saying : “So it will be waaaar tonight between France and Portugal. You should have seen his face, it was pathetic, the man was foaming at the mouth. Did he expect to see French players killing Portuguese? And can we be surprised by the behaviour of some fans when you hear things like this through “respectable” medium?
I find this disgraceful.
Talk about a beautiful game! No wonder then that some citizens(subjectsin fact) accept that their government enter unjust and fruitless wars. War becomes trivial. After all if its only a ”game”

I wish I could go to the Agarve and meet you. Nice place.

Again for all you idiots out there that understand nothing of the game nor the politics behind it. If u look at all papers printed after we won vs england, france soccer coach kept publically saying how we play dirty and what not. Referee read papers too, u dont think they go into a game haveing that behind there minds. Propaganda my friends. Portugal played much better than france. If it werent for the B.S call on carvalho, it would have been a different game. Refers werent fair went it came to portugal, because of all the B.S frances coach kept saying to the press. The only reason the French won was because the referees favored them. WE ALL NOW THAT. FYI just like ronaldo gave rooney the red card. PRESS IS THE PROBLEM HERE IDIOTS

False mate, you are lying! Raymond Domenech, the French coach prized you, declared that if you made it so far was thanks to your qualities. He said you had to be reckoned with.
However as you realised Refs don’t live in a bubble. He probably watched your previous matches on TV or actually in stadium and made their mind up,. May that influenced his decisions?
I don’t think so.
By the way Jorge, you’ve just admitted by implication in this message that your team cheated. Indeed why would Domenech say that you are cheat? And why would a ref believe it if your team were made up of angels?
And mind your mouth. You are adding insult to injury to the reputation of Porttugal’s supporters poor reputation.

how the hell did c. ronaldo give rooney a red card. ronney pulled down a portiguess player then stept on the other guys nuts so then ronaldo came to see if he’s team mates were ok then rooney with his anger management problems pushed ronaldo too. if it was any ones fault it was ronneys.

that realli didn’t change my mkind and took for eva to load!
u realli do need to get ova it it’s only a game and do you honestly think that rooney didnt deserve to get sent off i mean we all know he has some anger problems and he just blamed it on ronaldo. plus the english would believe rooney and their all just jelous because they dont have a player half as gud as ronaldo on their team and they needed an excuse for why they lost against portugal.
REASON: because portugal was way better than them.

Well done Portugal, the second goal was very unlucky. They showed good spirit till the end.
As for the Rooney Ronaldo affair, Yes I think that Rooney is a liability.I don’t particularly like his attitude.
However Ronaldo is bringing a lot of discredit to his team. His diving seems to be chronic. Specialy in the penalty area of course. It happened again during the last match. The problem is also that its like the boy who cried wolf, when their is a tru foul on a portuguese the ref don’t see it.
I don’t think he is that good

One thing that surprises me is that there is never question of DOPING in football.
We all remember the Festina doping scandal in cycling, theTom Simpson affair, a British cyclist who died climbing Mont Ventoux following usage of amphetamines, athletes are subject to surprise raid and random testing, during training, after the competition, before.
recently David Millar, the 2003 World-Time Trial Champion, admitted using EPO, and was stripped of his title and suspended for two years. Still later, Roberto Heras was stripped of his victory in the 2005 Vuelta a España and suspended for two years after testing positive for EPO.
But in Football? It was a well known fact that Maradona was full of coke, yet nothing was done about it before the end of his career when he confessed his “problem” .
When I watched Italy-Germany, I felt suspicious; the players must be spending more energy than marathon runners during a match, with accelerations, decelerations, dribbling, the emotions, how do they do it? When I am seeing the aggressive attitude of some players I am thinking to my self, are they in their own mind?
Where did the Italians find the oomph to play 2 hours and sustaining their rhythm. Is it all natural? Are they full of it?
What do you think?

There is no excuse what so ever. When I was a semi pro martial artist, I was explained that if I got involved in a brawl, I would get my licence and access to the Dojo withdrawn.
All football player behaving like Zidane did should be banned without appeal. What kind of exemple do they give to the youth? There can’t be any excuse.
As a french I feel more ambarassed and ashamed for that than for loosing the game.
In fact we deserve to loose the game for that reason. Being red carded ZZ didnot take part in the penatty shoot out.
Zizou abruti! Zidane Dimwit!
What pisses me is that despite this the all French press says that HE WAS WRIGHT! That he must have had a good reason for acting like that! Lip readers are analysing the tapes to find out what was said. This is SHAME FULL.
THEIR IS NO EXCUSE TO VIOLENCE IN SPORT!
VIOLENT PEOPLE MUST BE EXCLUDED FROM PROFESSIONAL SPORT. THEY CAN ADRESS THEIR PROBLEM WITH A PSY and release their anger in an amateur club. It was the 15th time that ZZ head buiied an other player on a pitch. Such delinquant behaviour is punished with jail in normal life.

Yes you are wright, lets change the rules:
free diving, steel toe cap doc Martens, knukle dusters, don’t forget head butting, that should provide some ENTERTAINMENT!
Super, even better than american football, no pussies on the pitch though!

Gaulois, by “no pussies on the pitch”, do you mean to exclude “cute” Cristiano? He looks more like a Lady man than a tough guy. God bless him.

Well done Matt, did you manage to type all these words with two fingers? Try again without watching the keyboard. Also try not to use abusive language, I know that’s half you vocabulary, but try, that will be good for your imagination.
Good boy!
