Kimchi will Save the World Cup from Bird Flu

A member of German’s Green Party called for the cancellation of the World Cup today because of the danger posed by the outbreak of bird flu in the country. The scary sounding H5N1 strain of bird flu reached Germany last week and more than 100 dead birds have tested positive for the disease. At World Cup Blog we are on record as being anti-bird flu. We hate it, even more so than cooties. But we are also very much pro-World Cup. So what should we do?

To paraphrase Bob Dylan: “The answer my friend is blowing in the kimchi.” That’s right, kimchi, the pickled and fermented vegetable dish that is widely consumed in South Korea. According to researchers there, early studies show that kimchi might be helpful in fighting bird flu.

So instead of canceling the World Cup, we would like to propose mandatory kimchi consumption for all participants and spectators. Admittedly, kimchi is an acquired taste that many people never acquire but desperate times call for desperate matters. Besides, German food tastes gross anyway. Substitute vile tasting sauerkraut with vile tasting kimchi and you won’t even know the difference.

World Cup Blog isn’t afraid to put its money where its mouth is so today for lunch we will be visiting our local Korean restaurant and we will order a heaping plate of kimchi. If we survive this ordeal, we will report back with an update on our health condition.

Some German Green Party members are really, really asinine. For example they got a law passed in Germany to shut down all the nuclear power plants (which don’t contribute the global warming) because nuclear waste is bad. The problem isn’t they didn’t have a plan to replace all that clean nuclear energy, and so now Germany is stuck with using more fossil fuels and contributing to global warming.

    Asinine Greens.
