Kaiser Extends World Cup Invite to Maradona
We’re not sure if Diego Maradona was able to score tickets to the World Cup through FIFA’s silly lottery, but the Argentine legend should have a seat waiting for him in Germany is he wants to take in a match or two. The globetrotting World Cup ambassador Franz Beckenbauer was in Argentina today where he said Maradona would be a “guest of honor” if he chooses to come to Germany this summer. While undoubtedly our Argentina blog is thrilled about the mere mention of the Great One, we are also excited by the prospects of Maradona on the road. It seems like every time he goes to an airport or stays at a hotel these days something scandalous happens. Don’t get us wrong, we loved the man as a player and wish him no ill will. Well, maybe a little ill will as payback for that little Hand of God thingy….

When I was going through customs in Korea during the 2002 World Cup, I saw a sheet of paper with a list of people not to admit into the country and in large, bold letters was “Diego Maradona”.

You have to admit that the other goal he scored that day was one of the best in World Cup history.

Regarding your comments Wendy about Maradona.
Now how do I explain this without causing any riots. Korea, South Korea I should say are pretty good at “sucking up” to certain nations.
Maradona, is notorious if you want to call it for being very vocal, opinionated and outspoken about his left-wing ideology and for one is a staunch fan of Che Guevara and Fidel Castro.
Now that itself does not go hand in hand for Korea’s image to certain nations they want to build stronger relationships with.
Go figure!
