As a non-soccer fan I just have to vent to someone: I want to get into the World Cup, but the refs are controlling each match with the ever-present yellow and red cards. Let them play, or give a warning. In what other sport, does one official have such a big impact on the game? The ref from Brazil in the Sweden/Germany match gave a second yellow card to a Swede basically for looking at him wrong. Ridiculous. Get new refs and let them play FIFA!

Not sure what to make of the Ghana-Jamaica game, but the result should at least serve as something of a warning shot across the bows of the other Group E teams. I always enjoy the African teams at the World Cup; they play with enthusiasm and show fear of no one. Ghana is the team I think I'm most concerned about for the US...I really hope our guys have taken care of things with the Czech's and Italians so they're not in a must-win against Ghana.

If FIFA name a replacement team, should we assume that it will also hail from CONCACAF? If so, who would the head referee be? Kevin Stott perhaps...
