Jack Warner Cleared; FIFA Proves it is Useless
If you needed any further evidence that FIFA is a worthless organization run by a bunch of corrupt idiots then we have the story for you. The world’s governing soccer body today decided that would take no action against its vice-president Jack Warner who has used his position to fill his family’s bank account through the sale of World Cup tickets. Here is the background for those who are just tuning into this shameful story of power and greed. In February, FIFA said that Warner had violated its “code of ethics.” Today, FIFA showed that it has no ethics.
I know that I am probably only part of the .00001% of the world that cares about this story, but as a fan of the Beautiful Game I find it extremely frustrating that the people who are charged with protecting the game are more concerned with protecting one another.
Corruption exists everywhere, but that doesn’t mean it is right or that the world should turn a blind eye to it. The fact is that people like Jack Warner and Sepp Blatter have been making personal fortunes for decades and the people who have been paying for their greed are football fans around the world.
I’m most angry because I would rather be devoting my time to writing about what is good and humorous about the World Cup rather than getting up on a soap box shouting into the wind about FIFA corruption. But that is exactly what FIFA and its cronies want. They want us to ignore their actions and to accept their corrupt ways as a small price we have to pay for all the enjoyment we get from a great game.
As fans, we deserve better.

FIFA ranks a very close second to Major League Baseball in the “inept organization that is clueless to the needs of the sport it governs” category.

If they weren’t so bloody smug about their corruption you might actually believe it when they say they’re acting in the interest of the Beautiful Game. Nothing has changed in the administration of FIFA through the last two presidents. They are more about perpetuating their own importance than promoting the game. The amount of politics and infighting that goes on behind the scenes is such a waste of resources and fosters the wrong kind of person who actually gets to lead.
We need FIFA and at a grass roots level they no doubt do excellent work, but the skimming off the top by the fat cats is such a poorly kept secret it’s embarassing.

[...] Jack can do no wrong – As Bob has detailed, the FIFA ethics committee ruled that Jack Warner’s role in the World Cup ticket distribution in Trinidad involved no conflict of interest. Sigh. FIFA has repeatedly demonstrated that it’s not the most above-board organisation it the world. Blatter’s entire tenure has been dogged by allegations of corruption. So has Jack Warner’s. The excellent Lasana Liburd over at the Trinidad Express provides even more details. [...]

Until grassroots democracytakes hold – until the vast majority of people are disgusted with FIFA the vast majority of the time – they will continue to trade on the popularity of the World Cup towards their own wealth-building ends…as Charles Gordon “Chuck” Blazer once asked me… ‘You…you ARE a capitalist, aren’t you?’
There’s no reason – none at all- for everyday soccer enthusiasts to buy into FIFA’s take on what football can be at all. We could all walk away from it tomorrow, and build something totally different, that actually used the energies produced by interest in football for the betterment of soccer lives and lives in general.
It could happen tomorrow, if we wanted it to; FIFA exists primarily b/c we buy into FIFA; once we cut through the illusion that we cannot do any better, we’ll produce a governing body of soccer that’s by, of and for the people…

Jack Warner has continually used the Development Funds available from FIFA to the CONCACAF region etc to give the impression that these funds are coming from his own pocket and claiming that the relevant football associations are indebted to him…..corruption and deceipt at the highest. He has turned the joy of T&T making the finals into sadness as they watch him unleash an orgy of corruption to enrich himself, family and associates…..even funding his political endeavours…..

[...] It has been at least a few months since FIFA exec Jack Warner has been in the news for his perpetual crookedness, but you can’t keep a good crook down for too long. FIFA is investigating whether Warner illegally sold hundreds of World Cup tickets and pocketed a cool half a million pounds for himself. Warner, of course, got in a bit of heat before for using his power to pocket money from World Cup sales and apparently FIFA’s meager reprimand then did not stop him from doing it again. Let’s hope that FIFA finally grows some balls and gets rid of this guy.
