Italy or Germany? Go Ahead and Support Both

By: WC Bob | July 4th, 2006 | 10 Comments »

If you are having trouble deciding who you want to win today’s semifinal between Italy and Germany, the Pope has a novel solution for you. The German-born Benedict XV will support his native land for one half and his adopted land for the other half. While we don’t believe for a second that he will wear a German jersey for one half and an Italian jersey for another, it is a pretty nifty way to watch football. No matter what, you will always come away knowing your backed the winning team.

Speaking of holy figures, Diego Maradona offers his thoughts on today’s match and his holiness is not especially impressed with Germany’s team.

“Germany doesn’t know how to play but it’s physically strong,” Maradona said in an interview on the state-run RAI radio. “They always run, they always get (on the ball).”
But “Germany has shown nothing until now. Even with Argentina, it was down 1-0 and kept staying on the defence”.

Unlike that fence-sitter Pope, we think Maradona will be rooting for one team tonight and that team isn’t Germany.

Maradona must be back on da coke again :) if he recogns germany are hopeless LOL, but i recogn his words were probably taken out of context straight after the Argentinian loss. Germany have been fantastic and are unlucky to be playing without Frings, very UNLUCKY to say the least

The Vatican should put together a squad of players from all over the world, granting them Vatican Passport.

This could be the true sport spirit. A national team of all nations.
