Is anyone having Luck Watching the World Cup Online?

Now that we are a few days into the competition, I am wondering if any of you have found a good way to watch the World Cup matches online. For those in the UK, have you had much luck with the BBC online broadcasts? For those outside the UK, have you been able to beat the system to watch the matches online? Are there any Chinese pirate sites that seem to be working better than others or is the traffic too great for the games to stream properly?

Curious minds want to know. If you have a tip or a resource for watching the World Cup games online leave a comment and help out your brethren around the world.

Of course, you can always come to World Cup Blog for our liveblogs. We will be doing them for each game in the tournament.

I read that Globo (a brazilian company) bought the rights from FIFA to show live matches online.

    Their website is: http://www.globo.com

Don’t know spanish, so don’t know what the site says or what the deal is. Good luck.

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO you have failed me Razzle! We talk brazilian portuguese, not spanish. :P

Anyways, I’ll visit the page tomorrow, if globo.com has some link for video streaming I’ll paste it here.

  • Zach

Just checked. From what I gather, only people in Brasil can access video from that site. I was blocked.

  • Zach

    Also, stay away from satellitepcchannels.com
    it’s a total rip off.

Typical mistake. Here in Brazil we speak PORTUGUESE. Same language that Portugal, but a bit different. They speak a lot faster and some words just mean other stuff. Like ‘Bicha’ there is a line of people. Here ‘bicha’ is a gay man.

We can understand some Spanish, because most words have the same origin, but if they speak fast I can barely understand anything.

Brazil speaks PORTUGUESE!!! C’mon, people! Didn’t you see ‘The Simpsons go to Brazil’?

About the post, thank God I don’t need to watch anything from the internet. We have at least 2 channels showing all the games. Globo and SporTV (cable also from Globo).

that chinese israeli site works well enough.

the one bob used for the exhibition games before the wc.

livefooty.doctor.serv or something like that…i always have to go find the link on wcb.

  • Globo.com -> I’ve just checked now again and apparently it’s only for subscribers. I’ll let you know if there’s anything available tomorrow (Australia vs Japan!) but it seems like it isn’t the case.

I’ve been using this site as of today. There are apparently 4 channels you can choose. Chinese, German, Arabic, and one unknown(because nothing comes up on it). The Chinese one is so far teh best one out the the 4 mainly because it seems to be the ONLY one working. Yeah. To make it even worse every few seconds it needs to buffer…but hey at least you can see some of the game between buffering.

The German site just continues with it’s splash screen and nothing else. That’s a dud. The Arabic one same thing. Dud. The unknown one, well, in that it you can see that the server is trying to link up to a stream but dies out.

This is the only one so far that I have seen that works. Sorry friends!

  • Ninj

tvuplayer is good. the resolution isn’t very good. but, for a live stream it’s great since there isn’t any lag (not with my connection anyway – a crappy 5MB down)

Since so many of you are witing from china, you really should use PPPLive. You can watch the world cup from about 8 different channels inc. ESPN, starsports and CCTV5. English version is available- just look up on google. I hear PPPLive also works abroad (but I haven’t tested, yet). Good Luck!

I was able to from work on Friday – God bless the Chinese! But at home I’ve been unsuccessful in finding a streaming video solution for my Mac. Any suggestions?

  • Stuart

Yes and no…my ISP at home carries ESPN360, but they’re not showing all the games each day and PC remote control isn’t broad enough to pass video back to the monitoring side so I can’t watch from work via my home PC. Their stream is good if you can get it, though. I had one of those Chinese pirate streams going for a bit on Friday, bit it must have collapsed under load and was lost for the rest of the mathc. Funny that nearly 15 years since the explosion of the web that the most important sporting event on the planet is still not easily accessible in streaming format online.

Somebody knows where could we LISTEN TO the world cup games online ?.

  • Ali Siddiqui

^I like how most of these are ads that don’t really allow you to watch the games unless you want to download applications that maybe ridden with various viruses.

I use TVUPlayer to watch the World Cup games.
It only works if your internet connection permits P2P.
Some days you have the games on ESPN2 others on ABC, and you can also watch on CCTV5

  • ST

MAke shore your firewall isn’t blockin the TVU Player. i Use it from Lisbon and it works fine.

The VooDoo question on June 13 is ridiculous. Its for gullible people. I’m African, its about African sportsmanship and skill. Realize that!
