Is anyone having Luck Watching the World Cup Online?

By: WC Bob | June 12th, 2006 | 37 Comments »

Now that we are a few days into the competition, I am wondering if any of you have found a good way to watch the World Cup matches online. For those in the UK, have you had much luck with the BBC online broadcasts? For those outside the UK, have you been able to beat the system to watch the matches online? Are there any Chinese pirate sites that seem to be working better than others or is the traffic too great for the games to stream properly?

Curious minds want to know. If you have a tip or a resource for watching the World Cup games online leave a comment and help out your brethren around the world.

Of course, you can always come to World Cup Blog for our liveblogs. We will be doing them for each game in the tournament.

Since so many of you are witing from china, you really should use PPPLive. You can watch the world cup from about 8 different channels inc. ESPN, starsports and CCTV5. English version is available- just look up on google. I hear PPPLive also works abroad (but I haven’t tested, yet). Good Luck!

I was able to from work on Friday - God bless the Chinese! But at home I’ve been unsuccessful in finding a streaming video solution for my Mac. Any suggestions?

Yes and no…my ISP at home carries ESPN360, but they’re not showing all the games each day and PC remote control isn’t broad enough to pass video back to the monitoring side so I can’t watch from work via my home PC. Their stream is good if you can get it, though. I had one of those Chinese pirate streams going for a bit on Friday, bit it must have collapsed under load and was lost for the rest of the mathc. Funny that nearly 15 years since the explosion of the web that the most important sporting event on the planet is still not easily accessible in streaming format online.

^I like how most of these are ads that don’t really allow you to watch the games unless you want to download applications that maybe ridden with various viruses.

I use TVUPlayer to watch the World Cup games.
It only works if your internet connection permits P2P.
Some days you have the games on ESPN2 others on ABC, and you can also watch on CCTV5

The VooDoo question on June 13 is ridiculous. Its for gullible people. I’m African, its about African sportsmanship and skill. Realize that!
