Inkblot Test: Teamgeist Ball

By: WC Bob | April 7th, 2006 | 19 Comments »

My favorite line from this article today about the Adidas Teamgeist ball that will be used in the World Cup: “Yes, all balls are round. But this one is rounder than any other according to experts at Britain’s University of Loughborough, and the Britons know soccer.” In addition to being very round, the Teamgeist ball has a hypnotic effect. Every time I look at it I see something new. One minute the design looks like a face, the next it looks like a maxi-pad, the next I see a ghost. I can only imagine what people on drugs must see when they look at this thing.

As anyone who has ever taken a Rorschach inkblot test can tell you, the way you interpret objects says a lot about your personality.

So give it a try. Stare at the Teamgeist ball for 10 seconds and share with us what you see. We promise not to laugh at you. Well, at least not out loud.

Looks like a robot head. I wish they would worry less about roundness and give it some goal line awareness. Maybe the ball should turn red when it crosses the line?

it looks like several bowling pins were sewen into it. I guess they wanted to give Brazil another advantage. no onw wants to head a bowling pin so this will keep it on the ground more (haha)

I see Brazil’s next World Cup Championship in it, otherwise a ball covered in band-aids. (my daughter saw maxi-pads too, without reading the article by the way)

Some people are just paranoid. I can’t think of words to…

Brazil advantage?

Next World Cup championship?

Call the shrink!

Euler, picture a swami in a turban with that goofy ball as a crystal ball making a prediction. Hope that lightened up the mood. The last thing Brazil needs is another advantage. I think to make it fair they should make Brazil tie the front line players together so they play three-legged, at least in the opening round against Croatia. One Croatian saying about a ball is that it rolls in the same manner for both teams.

[...] Those cats at Adidas sure are tricky. For what has seemed like the past 765 months they have been promoting the Teamgeist ball that will be used at the World Cup. This hypnotizing sphere has been hyped as the first World Cup ball to be black and white since the one used in 1994. Well, it turns out the ball that will be used in the championship match in Germany will actually be gold. Blasphemy, you say. We say: who cares? As long as we can see the darned thing on television it doesn’t matter to us what color they use. Gold is a bit tacky and not really the fashion style these days but it will still look good when our team puts it in the goal. [...]

All negative comments seem to come from sick people.
The reason the ball was made in such design was to reduce the amount of corners and seams.
If you guys had studied physics a lil at school you would have appreciated it. Many top level football players were impressed with it.
