Injuries and Suspensions for the Second Round
I’ve talked with all of the team doctors and have consulted with the referees to put together this list of players that are either suspended or injured heading into their second round games. I think it is fairly complete and fairly accurate but you are welcome to add any suspension or injury news I might have missed while burning the midnight oil with phone calls to the medical staffs.
Germany: No suspensions, no major injuries
Sweden: No suspensions, Zlatan Ibrahimovic may return from a groin injury
Argentina: No suspensions, midfielder Luis Gonzalez is still recovering from a groin injury while defender Nicolas Burdisso suffered an injury to his right leg against Netherlands and is a doubt.
Mexico: Luis Perez is suspended for the Argentina match
England: No suspensions, Michael Owen is out for the World Cup and Gary Neville is doubtful for the Ecuador match.
Ecuador: No suspensions, no injuries.
Portugal: No suspensions, no injuries.
Netherlands: No suspensions, no injuries
Australia: Brett Emerton is suspended for the Italy match. Tony Popovic is out with a calf injury.
Italy: Danielle De Rossi is suspended until the final, Alessandro Nesta is out of the Australia match with an injury.
Switzerland: No suspensions. Philippe Senderos is out of the rest of the World Cup with a dislocated shoulder.
Ukraine: Defenders Vyacheslav Svidersky and Andriy Rusol are both suspended for the Switzerland match. Defender Dmitro Chigrinsky is injured and out for the rest of the competition.
Brazil: No suspensions, Robinho is doubtful for the Ghana match.
Ghana: Michael Essien is suspended for the Brazil match.

France: No suspensions, no injuries

Senderos is a huge loss for the Swiss. Essien likewise vs. Brasil. And Zlatan will be sorely needed today.

Ecuador’s midfielder Edison Mendez is somewhat in doubt for the England match. I assume that he will play if at all able, because it would be bad news for Ecuador if he didn’t.

swiss without senderos is very unlikely.

Essiens is a big loss for Ghana. I have checked both cards that received and I must say none of them deserved even a verbal warning.
