If Chelsea were a country…

By: WC Bob | May 16th, 2006 | 30 Comments »

Wednesday’s Champions League final between Arsenal and Barcelona features its share of World Cup players you should keep an eye on. Both sides have an impressive amount of talent and I personally can’t wait to sit back and enjoy some excellent football that will only get me even more excited for the World Cup to start. While we will see our share of superstar players on the field in Paris, Chelsea fans have been treated to their share of World Cup players all season long. There are 17 Chelsea players spread across 10 World Cup rosters.

Pretty amazing when you think about it. I’d love to see a listing of the top five clubs represented by players in the World Cup. If anyone is willing to do the research, I’ll offer you this grand prize: the opportunity to write your very own post on World Cup Blog about any topic you want. If you want to pimp your team or peddle porn, it doesn’t matter because it will be your very own post.

Get researching. First one to post the correct answer wins.

Ballack looked good against the Poles, poor ‘The Shev’ against Spain and don’t be surprised if Terry, Cole or Lampard score today for England against Trinidad & Tobago.

England struggled to T&T. Lampard was poor, J Cole was tricky and JT was magnificent just for the clearance off the line and the second subsequent block.
Hernan Crespo, Arjen Robben and Didier Drogba are all in action today.

Drogba’s WC is finished. IC were beaten by Holland 2-1 and DD got his second booking, so he will miss ICs last game.
In action today is Carvalho, Ferreira for Portugal against Iran and Petr Cech for Czech Republic against Michael Essien’s Iran.

ooops… ‘Michael Essien’s Iran should have been Ghana.

And Ghana beat the CR 2-0.
Gallas was unfortunate in trying to stop SK’s equaliser last night.
The Shev is in action for the Ukraine at the moment. He hasnt scored but the Ukraine are leading Saudi Arabia, 2-0.

The Shev scored in Ukraine’s 4-0 whooping of Saudi Arabia. His first International and World Cup goal as a Chelsea player.
Tonight its the turn of Messrs Lampard, J Cole and John Terry as England take on Sweden to determine which team plays either Ecuador or Germany in the last 16 knock-out round.
BTW Germany beat Ecuador 3-0 to finish top of Group A.

Tonight its Hernan Crespo v Arjen Robben as the best team so far, Argentina take on Holland.
Can Robben pick up a third Man of the Match award tonight??

Disappointed that the Robben v Crespo clash didn’t happen, but glad that both players got through to the second round. Also through are Carvalho, Ferriera (Portugal), Essien (Ghana, although he is suspended for the Brazil game), The Shev (Ukraine), he got the winner against Tunisia, the England contingent - Cole, Terry and Lampard, Germany’s Ballack and France’s Gallas and Makelele.

England’s projected quarter-finals opponents are Holland.

Michael Ballack becomes the first Chelsea player to reach the last eight of World Cup 2006 as Germany beat Sweden 2-0 this afternoon.

Can Hernan Crespo become the 2nd later this evening?

Although Michael Essien didn’t play for Ghana today (through suspension) against Brazil he joins Arjen Robben as the latest Chelsea players to get the bus home. Ghana lost 3-0.

Here’s to Claude Makelele and William Gallas of France to KEEP THE BLUE FLAG FLYING HIGH, later tonight when France take on Spain, in the last of the 2nd round matches.

Wave bye-bye to Hernan Crespo and Shevchenko as they were knokced out of the World Cup yesterday.

Germany beat Argentina and Italy beat Ukraine.

Today there could be SEVEN Chelsea players in action!!

Havent been about since England lost to Portugal at the weekend. Glad to see Italy get through to the final and I HOPE the French get there too!!!

Only because of the Ronaldo/Rooney incident, two club team mates with one going to ‘war’ on the other. Shameful. Pleased that ‘Gormless’ aka Sven Goran Eriksson has now gone, all his fault that England didn’t progress. All those players and all that talent. Shameful!!!!

Anyway Come on France do the business tonight, but whatever happens Chelsea ARE guaranteed two players in the final of World Cup 2006.

France: William Gallas and Claude Makelele.
Portugal: Paulo Ferreira (who hasnt played yet) and Ricardo Carvalho.

So the French boys made it and Chelsea have TWO players in the final that can become World Champions, but sorry Willie G and Claude, but I want Italy to win.

I love everything about Italy. The country, the people and the language. I have been to Italy twice to Milan and Rome and want to go back time and time again, when time and money permits.

SO FORZA ITALIA
