Group B: Google’s Fallible Prediction

By: WC Bob | March 20th, 2006 | 2 Comments »

Crystal BallOver the course of the past few months, World Cup Blog has offered its infallible predictions for each of the World Cup groups. We are so confident of the infallibility of our selections that we are willing to match wits with the smartest kids on the block: Google. Google Fight is a site that allows you to enter any two terms and the Google gurus tell you who would win in a fight. Today we played out this battle with the Group B games to see how our predictions compare to Google’s. Will World Cup Blog reign supreme in this clash of Internet titans?

No Rooney. ‘nough said.

Seriously, who’s going to pair with Michael Owen - Peter Crouch? the young (and fabulously unexperienced) Theo?

Really, Sven, what were you thinking? If Rooney’s a bust, then you’ve got to have some striking power. You admit that you haven’t even see Theo play. Maybe Arsene really is running things at the FA.

And, in taking the kid, you’ve left Darren Bent at home. You know, Darren Bent, the best English striker in the EPL.

Meanwhile, Sweden is quietly putting together a very, very solid team. Let’s not forget that Sweden pipped England in 2002, having scored more goals than England, to win the group.

Plus, Sweden won its group in Euro 2004 (which included Italy), scoring 8 goals. This year, they’re pairing Ibrahimovich and Larsson. How many times will we see Larsson’s tongue?

Sweden - 1st
England - 2nd
