FIFA: We aren’t Afraid of a Little Bird Flu

By: WC Bob | February 23rd, 2006 | 3 Comments »

Forget all this talk about canceling the World Cup because of a few dead birds in Germany. FIFA says the games will go on. Not exactly a surprise, but we do love FIFA vice-president Julio Grondona’s logic: “I was in Zurich last week and I didn’t see anywhere that chicken was not being sold or not being eaten. I think it’s something that’s not an issue yet.”

Hmm, let’s get this straight. You can eat chicken in Switzerland so that means that things will be safe in Germany even though you can catch bird flu without eating an actual bird. Yes, we all feel safe now. Let’s head to the stadiums. FIFA says those are safe too.
