FIFA Urges Mexico Coach to Try Nicotine Patch

While FIFA is downplaying reports of scandalous corruption within its hallowed halls, the world’s football governing body is concentrating on more important things, like Mexico coach Ricardo Lavolpe’s smoking habits. FIFA is none too pleased that television cameras caught the Lavolpe puffing away on a cancer stick on the bench on Sunday and they are threatening punishment if he sends second hand smoke onto the pitch again.

“We’ll send something in writing to the Mexican (contingent),” warned FIFA communication/smoking czar Markus Siegler. “The players and coaches have to be role models.”

Indeed. It is great to see that FIFA has its priorities in order, well, as long as there isn’t a tobacco company sponsoring the tournament. If that were the case, FIFA would probably make the players smoke World Cup brand™ cigarettes while they play.

Bad idea. Everyone knows the most dangerous place to be in Germany is between La Volpe and a pack of cigs.

  • Daniel

That’s the dumbest crap I’ve heard yet! How is an old soccer coach an influence on kids. FIFA can be such hypocrits. If its so bad just let the networks know, not to show him when he is smoking.

  • Jodido

FIFA should mind their own business. Lavolpe should tell them to f*** off.

Magic is all over the World Cup 2006!
Because of some strangeness in game results – this site becomes more and more famous http://www.voodoo4football.com
Is it possible – that synchronous desire of a lot of fans concentrates and affects on the results of the football game?

    hooray for fifa!!
although I am biased because I find tobacco disgusting the fact is that, soccer is a family affair and they all should remember their position of influence towards children. lavolpe, hold onto the tobacco for after the game. you only have 3 more games to go because mexico will be leaving for home sooner rather than later and that deserves another hooray!!

hey, i know this isnt really related to this post, but what happened to the world cup fantasy league site?
    fifa intervention or somethign else?
    just curious

The United States will be leaving in the morning fly back home before Mexico. They already have half of the ticket on hand, if you know what I mean.

I have to smoke now cuz of him!! damn u

  • Juliana

Lavolpe could play a villain in Mexican soaps. I don’t think I’ve seen him smile. Ever.

  • Drax

It’d be highly amusing if during the next match Mexico play, the camera shot switches to one of Lavolpe curled up on the sideline, rocking back and forth, with like 10 nicotine patches stuck to his face.

  • zed

al is just bitter the u.s. got butt**** and mexico didnt. duh. and lavolpe should smoke all he wants. and they should get rid of those little kids the players hold by the hand when walking out, so its clear that the world cup isnt for the kids at all.

  • Daniel

Al quit being bitter towards Mexico just because the US lost. You remind me of the obusive husband who has a bad day at work and comes home and beats his wife. You did however bring up a good point…while Mexico may only have 3 games left it beats only having two. I happen to root for both teams but part of me is happy because Donovan is such a prick!

  • Daniel

oops! I meant abusive…don’t beat me!

  • stef

“…it’s all about the money in this world of milk and honey…”
around 1980… still valid in the angel world of sports. Lavolpe’s probably smoking the wrong brand…

  • Jeremy

Note to self… send one box of Cuban cigars to Lavolpe asap.
