FIFA Ticket Fiasco Enters Next Phase

By: WC Bob | February 14th, 2006 | 3 Comments »

Just when you thought FIFA couldn’t mishandle the ticket allocation system any more, along comes Phase 4 which will take place online Wednesday and which will follow a “first come, first served” approach. So let’s get this straight. Every phase thus far tickets have been vastly oversubscribed, yet there are still tickets available. Why are we still going through this charade? The fun thing to watch will be to see how long it takes before FIFA’s servers crash. I say it takes less than an hour.

We applied for four tickets for Ukraine v Tunisia in Berlin in Phase 3. We chose this match because according to FIFA on 13 Jan(http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/060113/1/5tyu.html) we has a ‘realistic chance’of getting tickets and the match was ‘not over-booked’.

However I was unsuccessful in Phase 3. I took the day off work on Wednesday for Phase 4, but the ticket system for crashed.

I have booked flights and an over-priced hotel in Berlin but am still without tickets.

If there are tickets left why not distribute them to those how applied in Phase 3.

Its an absolute disgrace and I am fuming. They won’t reply to my emails either.

[...] There are many who question the logic of FIFA’s ranking system. Still more are appalled by the way the governing agency has handled ticket distribution. [...]

UEFA managed to put togehter a proper system for Euro 2004, but this is the third World Cup fiasco in a row now for FIFA, it’s getting ridiculous. The World Cup is a tournament that pays for itself (the players are free and the national teams pay for their own travel and accomodation, the government pays for the stadia and security) so they have no excuse, other than finacnial greed, to be giving such a large portion of the tickets to sponsors.

I am steaming over this resale ticketing system. They keep releasing tickets but it is damn near impossible to get through the site and on top of that it doesnt seem accurate so you end up chasing dead-ends bc their site doesnt update fast enough. Such bullsh-t!!! Whoever set this up must apologize! It is horrendous
