FIFA Fines Togo for World Cup Strike Threat
The world’s football governing body has finally gotten around to taking action against Togo, handing out a 100,000 Swiss Franc fine to the Togolese Football Federation because Togo’s players threatened to strike over a pay dispute during the World Cup. You’ll recall that FIFA had to intervene in efforts to convince Togo’s players to show up for their match against Switzerland. This intervention has come with a pretty steep price if you ask me. FIFA doesn’t need the money. I would venture to say that the Togolese Football Federation does. Will this prevent such a dispute in the future? I doubt it.

Wow the last three blogs I have read have all made me extremely upset with FIFA. And we all expect horrible things from FIFA so you would think it’d be hard to be surprised…
First denying a team their constitutional rights and blackmailing them because FIFA wants to excersize its ultimate power…
Then having a rule that would force a player to play for a team that they no longer want to play for.
And now going through the money hungry lengths of fining a developing soccer nation when the issue is long over and done with? And somehow I believe that this fine is just a BIT more than what Zidane was fined for intentionally headbutting a guy.
FIFA is doing great at this whole “Fair Play” thing, eh?
