England Last Gasp Winner; Germany Routed by Italy

By: WC Bob | March 1st, 2006 | 2 Comments »

Joe Cole knocks home the winner in extra time to lift England to a 2-1 victory over a plucky Uruguay side. Meanwhile, Italy sent a message to the rest of the world by destroying Germany 4-1 in a match that wasn’t even that close. That sound you heard was me jumping off of the Germany bandwagon. The team is not in good form at all and even with the games played on its home soil, I’m not sure this German team has what it takes to win the World Cup. Some other teams that can’t be pleased are France and Sweden who both were beaten by inferior opponents today. Here are all the scores with only the Spain-Ivory Coast and Mexico-Ghana games left on the agenda. Not sure if I am seeing straight right now, but I am definitely amped for what we will see this summer in Germany!

Iran 3 – 2 Costa Rica
Korea Republic 1 – 0 Angola
Russia 0 – 1 Brazil
Tunisia 0 – 1 Serbia & Montenegro
Turkey 2 – 2 Czech Republic
United States 1 – 0 Poland
Argentina 2 – 3 Croatia
Sweden 0-3 Ireland
Holland 1-0 Ecuador
Portugal 3-0 Saudi Arabia
France 1 – 2 Slovakia
Scotland 1 – 3 Switzerland
England 2-1 Uruguay
Italy 4 – 1 Germany

But who dares to write Germany off?

Think about the results of Brazil, France, Spain, England and Czechs.

That leaves room to think.

Germany wasn’t testing, they’ve introduced the WC squad. Brilliant? Hell no. Perspective? Hell yeah.

My team was a joke, but at least our coach Parreira was testing a lot. Our “siberian” game was to show that we must work to do well in this World Cup.

Sad thing is to see that the Italian blog is away… it would be cool to read the big winner’s opinion about the clash of giants.
