Early Candidates for Worst World Cup Hair

Now that we have seen 16 of the 32 teams in the World Cup, some early favorites are emerging for the coveted Worst Hair award.

Angola defender Loco takes the Ronaldo-circa-2002 look to a new level with the half-cut dreadlock look. Do you suppose he got a discount for only having 50% of his hair cut?

Sweden’s Christian Wilhelmsson takes us back to the 80s with an impressive flowing rat tail (couldn’t find an actual picture of it, but this one gives you an idea of what that dude is all about.) that could very well poke out an eye or two in his next match.

Who will emerge to challenge these players for this prestigious honor? We should know more after the next few days.

Anyone care to throw out some potential horrible hair candidates?

Oh this is hilarious!!

Its not just a “bad hair day”. A bad hair “month” even. Dont their moms or girlfriends tell them off for that?

Oh and I’d just like to take this opportunity to thank you for this blog. I was mighty depressed that I dont get to watch the World Cup this year. I could’ve cried even. And I had nightmares of having to just follow up on the match scores alone. And then, the light of your blog dawned on me (like a blessing). I know its not the same as getting to watch the match, but I feel like I did watch bits and pieces of the matches. *big smile* I’d consider a thank you hug. But that would be taking it a little too far. Thanks a million ‘Bob’ and the other guy (I dont remember the name :( – Sorry!).

Bring on the rest of the matches!!

Salam.

LOCO rules!!!! He even snuck forward and tried to thump in a goal yesterday. If he can master that bicycle kick Akwa keeps trying to use to score, he will take charge in this Cup!

if i were a coach, players will hilarious and extravagant hairstyles won’t get a place in the team, A player should make himself famous with great skills, not a cheap public stunt such as crazy hairstyles

Loco takes the spot, I think. It’s like Ronaldo’s old ‘cascão’ look but much worse because it also has some dread locks. And look at his name.

Oh, previously I said Wilhelmsson looked like Beckham, but from this picture he looks so like Crouch. Which is a plus on his Hair contest, but still not enough to top Loco.

I think the whole Argentina team should be nominated for worst hair.

I second the Argentina nomination. Rat tails, mullets, braids, grease… they definitely take the overall team award. I was in Argentina 2 months ago and discovered that most young men have similar hairstyles, and it doesn’t stop the [beautiful] women from sucking face with them — usually very publicly.

Step forward Ivory Coast’s Abdelkadr Keita, who sported a gunmetal-blue-dyed number against Argentina (why?), and the complete Japan squad, who looked like they had nicked the Aussie team’s entire supply of Fudge. Apparently Togo also have a number of contenders, if they can be arsed to turn up and play.

I think Loco’s hair is the secret weapon in Angola’s prowess in keeping the game somewhat even in the Portugal match.

Hahaha. Yeah, Zidane is funny. And no, Sorin, that’s strategy – against Zidane. He wants to make him jealous of all that hair!! ;)

I thought Palacio had quite bad hair style taste!

I think we also need to have a C.Ronaldo only thread. Dedicated to his apocalyptic pouts and of course one for “The Shadow”. Some of the people here may know what that means! :D

The ironic (we hope) post-mullet appears to be the style du jour for underage millionaires.

I’ve yet to see anything to rival Carlos Valderamma. Man, he was great – just google for an image – it was like having 12 men on the field!

I can’t believe that nobody’s mentioned Danijel Ljuboja of Serbia & Montenegro.

I nearly threw up when I first saw the dazzling white stripe bisecting his hairdo.
