Don’t Tell Paraguay, but Rooney Might be Ready

By: WC Bob | May 20th, 2006 | 7 Comments »

Reports out of England Saturday say that Wayne Rooney is recovering quickly from his metatarsal injury. It has been widely expected that he would miss most of the group matches, but now there is some thought he could be ready for the team’s opener against Paraguay. An England source told The Sun: “It is pretty well known in the camp Wayne is way ahead of schedule - but why tell the opposition?” Ok, we won’t. Rooney’s quick recovery could be attributed to many things like the use of an oxygen chamber and bicycle training, but we like that it is a case of divine intervention.

I hope he makes it back in time.
It’s not fair to the rest of the world, that we miss out on his skills.

Plus, I would hate to hear Rooney excuses from the English if they don’t make a run…

I’d like to see him there… it would be so nice to have all our players fit for once… it seems every WC we have major players injured.

Rooney excuses? nah… England should be able to do well with or without him… this is the best English team in my lifetime by some margin.

I think they should have him skip the first match or two just in case.

As a football fan of the world….it’ll be great if he(Rooney) is there, even though we gave the poms a hiding in his 1st internation, and what a sweet victory it was I still think England would spank the U.S with a leg in the air!!!
hahaha. Cast the bait and see who bites??

I fear one more injury is he’d be thrown in too early could finish him off for a year.

They like to hype his recovery, take my word for it: He’s not gonna play against Paraguay.

I agree that he wont play against Paraguay. I am yet to hear of a player who got rid of a metatarsal injury that quick.

i don’t think it’s a matter of the metatarsel being fixed… that takes 6-8 wekks for normal human beings… with the medical support he has i would think it will be fixed by the first match…

BUT… it was never about that… it’s about how he deals with it… how fit can he possibly be… he isn’t getting the same training or friendly matches to sharpen him up… and I’m sure it will be bloody painful too…

So rather than being about the bone in his foot it’s about him… can he handlt the pain? is he going to be fit enough? It will be a huge test for the man… having said that he has said he regards himself as ‘just a footballer’… my bet is he will do whatever it takes.

He certainly won’t be able to manage a whole match until at least the second phase in my opinion, and i think it would be prudent to give him as many minutes as he can take in the group matches… ASSUMING we don’t screw it all up, which is very possible.
