Diouf Requests World Cup Qualifying Do Over

Senegal’s El-Hadji Diouf says the he will not watch the World Cup this summer because it will make him cry. Crying and whining is something that seems to come naturally to Diouf.

The Bolton Wanderers striker and self-proclaimed spokesperson for his home continent thinks Senegal should have a spot in Germany even though it was legitimately beaten in qualifying.

“I think the wrong teams are going to the World Cup,” he said. “If you have seen Ghana, and then you see Cameroon, Senegal and Nigeria, you know the wrong team is going.”

Ouch.

But wait, there’s more

“African teams going to the World Cup represent Africa,” he said. “They are ambassadors for African football – Senegal four years ago, Nigeria eight years ago, or Cameroon . . . We have only five African teams going to the World Cup, and we don’t want to lose a place. If we have five teams and they all go out in the first round, it’s not good for Africa.”

Ah yes, Diouf is simply concerned for the fate of his continent. Let’s kick out those teams who earned their spots in Germany in replace them with teams that underachieved in qualifying. Brilliant.

Diouf might be the only one crying this summer. I know I won’t be shedding any tears over not seeing him in the World Cup.

Watching the African Cup of Nations is sort of backing up his funny theory.

Given the fact that most of the Togo, Angola and Ghana players are not in a current use during Champions League weeks, they didn’t have the freshness to play the qualification very well.

I’d rather take Cameroon and Nigeria before any of those above. African Cup proves sortof the only one who is not completely without a chance of winning it is the Ivory Coast, which just lost to Egypt.

We’ll see, I don’t care as long as they don’t play their music at the stadiums here. It gets so annoying at times during the Cup I have to mute my TV.
