Cristiano Ronaldo Transfer Auction on Ebay

It was only a matter of time. A well-known player gains the wrath of a nation and the next thing you know his transfer is being auctioned on Ebay. Such was the case with Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo who is just a wee bit unpopular in England these days. Here’s the ad blurb that was on Ebay before it was pulled down. I’m kind of hoping that Ronaldo’s exit from the World Cup will put an end to all the nonsense. He might or might not win the award for best young player, but he has undoubtedly been the most polarizing player this competition.

  • Angie M

Very funny. Gotta enjoy the English humor. Will the guy go back to England? I’d be afraid.

  • http://www.3kilos.co.uk James

If he does come back to manchester, he has to face Rooney, Neville and Ferdinand every day in training, and any english full back he plays against will give him every hard tackle they posibly can…

He should quit football and join the olympic diving squad!

  • Roman

He must run, run very quick from UK and football at all. F…ng diving fairy.

  • skillz

I think everyone was a bit hard on ronaldo, Ive seen players on all teams dive, even on the thougher teams like sweden, ukraine, and germany.

  • http://none danyaal

nuthins gonna happen. apparently hes kissed and made up wit rooney and neville and ferdinand are to professional to get rid of an ace player over a grudge.

if fergie has any sense at all he will keep ronaldo n wait for this storm 2 blow over.

  • Arsenal Hooligan

I hope C. Ronaldo ends up with ARSENAL FC. That would really stick it to Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United!!!!!!!!!!

  • bodhi

You guys are talking about one of the best players in the world.

All the bull$*1ts about diving and blablabla are crap.

    Bow Dow to Ronaldo.

  • Dave

I do not like those type of tactics, but that is normal at this level. Why is everybody on CR’s butt. He is just playing the psycological game that is World Cup Football. Everyone should be on Rooney’s butt, especially English fan’s. Rooney is the one who let CR get to him and take hinself out of the game, probably causing Englands demise

  • Zeyad

There is no reason to get on Ronaldo. He is probably one of the most feared players in soccer. English fans just need someone to blame for their exit. Why dont you blame your FORMER captain, and hot head Rooney.

  • MP

Some people are very sore losers… and a bit coward, hiding behind the internet. Ai Ai

  • Remo

OK–this is off topic but I do have a question for all of you. In the England-Portugal game, Rooney stepped on the Portugal player, the referee and others arrived, the ref was writing something down, Ronaldo arrived gesticulating wildly (actually behaving normal for him), Rooney pushed him and turned to the ref, the ref fumbles in his pocket and pulls a red card.

    1. Don’t referees brandish the red immediately after the foul? What was the dramatic pause?

    2. Was he actually giving Rooney the red for pushing Ronaldo? Did he then change his story upon viewing video after the game.

I haven’t really seen anything comparable but if you watch the footage the ref wasnt even looking at Rooney until after the push on Ronaldo. Any other ref would have had hand in pocket immediately if the Rooney step was actually the motivation. I even thought he was awarding the ball to England as the two players were all over Rooney at the time.

Interesting to hear other input–please no conspiracy theories–I personally feel the ref was reacting to the push on Ronaldo and not the step. Also why wasnt Ronaldo carded? FIFA held meetings to state that players simulating cards or demanding them would be carded as well but noone has.

  • MP

    Yes, Remo, off topic.
    Double Ai Ai

  • Remo

Good luck in the game for 3rd place Ai Ai.

  • MP

Thank you for your support. I’m sure the team aims to win, and why not?

  • Cedric

“Anyone who understands soccer saw that the referee wasn’t fair”
This is an actual quote from C Ronaldo given to the Associated Press right after the game against France.
You got to love that guy!

Anyone who understands soccer saw that Ronaldo loves to dive

  • Ms. Catenaccio

Diving came from many other countries not just C. Ronaldo. It seems that you guys just can’t stand a good-looking player who’s not afraid of showing his emotions and unstoppable on the pitch. why don’t you leave Cristiano alone and go get yourselves oversize tires installed on your truck and get your insecurities over with? The Brits campaigne of trying to get the #2 guy voted whoever that is, just to get Ronaldo lose is beyond pathetic. Learn from Brazil and be an honorable loser!

  • Ronaldo Hater

He is a cheating player who can only do stepovers and dives all the time and i for one hope he stays with the red side of manchester so that when he comes to city we can give him the biggest stick ever

  • MP

    Ai Ai

  • Liliana

As a female, I couldn’t quite sympathize with the males around me as they grimaced watching Crotch Stomper Rooney work his magic. Even though the pain factor is lost on me, Rooney’s kick looked like a pretty obvious foul.
What I don’t understand is how England supporters can explain away Rooney’s behavior by focusing on C. Ronaldo’s over dramatic protests. Also wasn’t it *Rooney* who hit C. Ronaldo? If England supporters are looking to blame someone, wouldn’t it be Rooney?
    Someone help me understand.

  • footbal-fan

    Liliana –

it is not a question of losing, it is a matter to cheaters like C.Ronaldo, Maradona, Gentile, etc ruining the game. No one complained after England lost to Germany, or England lost to Brazil, because these teams play good, sportsmanlike footbal, and there are not disgusting characters like ROnaldo. I mean what else do you need, look at France vs Portugal, look at his behaviour? Look at press conference after the game.
He might be a good player, he has the skills, but as a human being he is disgusting! And because of that he never makes a great player, like Zidane, or Henry, or Pele.

  • footbal-fan

“Anyone who understands soccer saw that the referee wasn’t fair”

What a LOSER! THIS IS SHAME! INCREDIBLE! THIS GUY SHOULD BE CASTRATED, and SENT TO AUSTRALIA!

  • Remo

Ok Catenaccio, I agree –too much picking on the kid! But that comment of yours “unstoppable on the pitch”? Who? Ronaldo? Let’s see…he scored a goal…ONE! That means Angols stopped him! Mexico stopped him! England stopped him and France definitely stopped him. That puts him tied for 25th in the scoring. And that was a meaningless penalty against IRAN–that superpower of soccer! I had high expectations for the Portugese team this year and they sadly ran up against a tough French squad. Maniche impressed me, Figo was Figo, Deco was solid but Ronaldo did not produce…brilliant attempts, lots of dazzle in the stepovers but ONE goal. That hurt!

  • Ms. Catenaccio

well Ronaldo is a midfielder not an attacante. As far as I am concerned he was unstoppable as a midfielder.
Given that his one PK made the entire England rise against him, videos of his shirts burning, rumor of deportation etc – and why do people keep picking on him crying? I mean Beckham cried too and many in the German team cried.

  • Apple

Frankly, if a player doesn’t cry, I think he didn’t care enough. I am not a Cristiano Ronaldo fan, but one reason I am not jumping on the hater bandwagon is he’s young and he’s talented. If he doesn’t grow up, it’s going to affect his game much more than a bunch of angry people posting on blogs ever will. So why not move on?

  • Icarmo

    Oh,please leaves C.Ronaldo´s play..enough to criticize him !!
Put your eyes in this young player that have skills and mutch ability to give.
    Come on Cristiano Ronaldo..
    Força Portugal

  • Liliana

footbal-fan: Yes, I agree the Portuguese team did do quite a bit of obvious diving but how does that explain such hatred of C. Ronaldo by English supporters? It’s not as if his diving caused them to lose the game i.e Italy vs Australia.
I know it’s the way of the world, but it’s embarrasingly lame to scapegoat C. Ronaldo for their own teams’ shortcomings.

  • LH

Let the kid alone already. I didn’t see him do anything others didn’t do. This is beyond ridiculous. Anyone with a brain would want him on their team.

  • http://canada lg

hey mr ai ai c ronaldo is a ferry some should give him wings and picksey dust for the amount of diving and bunny hopping he does the whining baby

  • footbal-fan

    Lilliana,

Why do you think only England supporters did not like Ronaldo? Ask Dutch, or better French (Dutch were disgusting too), or actually ask anyone who cares that footbal is free of cheaters, and crooks. Footbal stars are very importnat idol icons nowadays. Anyone out there wants his/her kids growing having the idol like Ronaldo? Do you like your kid to be shown from the beginning that it does not matter what you do, winning is the most important. You can lie, you can kick, you can kill as long as you are sure you are not caught (referee is not watching…).

This is the image that Ronaldo, and not only Ronaldo (remember Maradona?) projects. And this is why I think he will never be a star of Zidane, Platini, Zico, Pele, Socrates caliber. All big starts are role models. And what kind of role model is Ronaldo?

  • jackie

but plenty of people dive. and hes a young player. i mean i dont understand why everyone wants to complain about him diving and england is all hating him.. so he dove. hes trying to get calls. and if it works sometimes, why wouldnt he do it? plenty of other players on other teams (and NOT just italy so please dont go there) do it too. if the ref is going to fall for it, its all in the style of play that has become acceptable in modern soccer. give him a chance to grow up a little.

  • FCB

my two cents. stop busting on C. Ronaldo, especially if you are an enlgish fan. he is not the cleanest of players, but Wayne Rooney is far worse.

Wayne Rooney stepped on the guy’s groin and he did it intentionally. Most of you on this blog are male. man, you know it hurts and you know it doesn’t get cheaper than that in sports.

  • lalalalala

Someone should tell Scolari diving only works for Brazil (cause the association actually likes them)

I’m so sorry for you Portugal. A great team lead by a confused demon.

  • SCrebel

Regardless of how you feel about C. Ronaldo’s on-field antics, the guy’s has beaucoups of soccer skills. If the English leagues don’t want him, send him over here, the U.S. soccer team could use him.

  • Claude

Instead of blogging about C. Ronaldo I think we should blog on the game itself. Should we do away with the offside rule? What can be done to see more scoring? Fifty years ago there were no subs and no PKs (teams played until there was a winner). The closer teams get to the final the less rest they get. Shouldn’t we give the teams a little bit more rest than 3 or 4 days? C. Ronaldo will make his own future – either of great play or great disappointment. Let the women enjoy dreaming about him while we men look at our fold out babes.

  • http://canada tony

anybody who loves soccer, has a basic understanding of soccer, has played soccer (at any level) will agree that its one thing to be a little over zealous on a tackle now and then but the diving and pleading for cards to be given is repulsing fans the world over and ronaldos game is despised not only by england fans, but by soccer lovers all around the globe!

  • Isabella

I think people should leave Ronaldo alone.

He is still a young player and needs time to develop. I agree that by the next World Cup we will see a different Ronaldo.

As for all the English fans that are complaining, did you really think Ronaldo was there to help England win?

I was sad to see England lose (I thought they could have made the final) but if they lost it was their own doing and not Ronaldo’s!

As for ManU, if I were them I would keep him. He is obviously a talented player, who under the right coach and system will shine.

Plus, the first game back will probably be the most watched game ever in soccer – you can’t buy press like that!

  • Isabella

as for diving, that should be outlawed but it isn’t and Ronaldo is not the only one that does it.

I agree that it is ridiulous but what does that say about the game when even the talented players dive???

FIFA has to do something about the game! I agree with Claude and the changes he suggested. Especially for the penalty kicks too!

And too bad but Ronaldo is cute! ;) I would watch whichever team he goes to (and I am an Italian fan).

  • Diane

The ebay advert was so funny. Yes I know the Portugese love Ronaldo we have heard it so much. Yes he is not the only soccer player to dive we have heard that many times too. However Mr. Ronaldo seems to do it on a much more regular basis than most other players. If as you say he is so talented then why does he have to resolve to diving, I say let him stay on his feet and show us is extraordinary skills you say he has and prove the critics wrong.

  • Jenifa

kakakak the ebay article was hilarious ~ thanks for that!

i agree with Liliana – the English are hating Ronaldo becuz he got poor rooney in trouble , killed their team’s chance of winning …

if the english team was realli dat great, they could have made it thru without rooney!

it’s so lame of the eng to kick him out of the man U. team becuz their patrotic english pride is hurt – ronaldo came into the WC with a portugese shirt on his back – don’t expect him to be sympathetic to the English. As all that have played soccer knows – foul or no foul , players complain to the referee – same way that the accused players always protests to the ref about the decision, rightful or not. So stop blaming english’s bad luck on him

  • Diane

Claude, I agree with you. Things have got to change in the rules. They changed the ‘kick back to the goalie’ rule, this avoided some of the time wasting and in some aspects tried to make it a more attacking sport. I believe that there should be video ref. As a viewer of the TV match we seem to get a much better view than the ref and the spectators standing in the kop, as to what actually happens when a foul etc occurs. The ref gets one view dependant on his position, I think it is the only way to progress.
However the TV audiences view is also dependant on which team you support.

  • http://www.worldcupblog.org/world-cup-2006/big-question-which-current-coach-was-the-best-player.html#comments Pedro P

C Ronaldo is indeed no more than a cheater, an overrated brat, a diver, etc…

It’s no doubt his fault that Rooney stamped on Carvalho’s balls (I guess Ronney was too tired, like the others when the shootout came, so he really had to step on someone’s balls to feel good), FRA had always 3-4 guys marking him whenever he had possession (I guess it was just to carry on the mascarade, cos he’s obviously no good), he has been a “sand-bag” getting beaten up since the WC started, english players were scared shit whenever he lead the attack, Holland in the space of some 10 minutes kicked the guy quite violently that he had to leave the pitch, shall I go on…?

    I guess this makes Portugal’s C Ronaldo a buch of animals…

It kinda surprises me most of the criticism against him, or Portugal, comes from english suporters – for who it’s apparently OK to step on someone’s balls, or from the dutch who did nothing more than diving, faking fouls, kicking really hard, etc, and the french coach, who knows perfectly well that in spite of all the talent and quality of his team, France only came back to the WC after an imaginary foul from Puyol and went to the final after an imaginary penalty from Carvalho. The germans were mainly on Portugal’s side, like Maradona, like the italians, etc…

So, I mean, that pretty much says it all. Portugal has been growing in world football, for the past 10-15 years. We have one of the best youth academys in the world. What I guess people fear, is not C Ronaldo’s dives, but the team’s potencial itself. I mean, England;s been after the tittle for so long, cos it’s been 40 years, cos there will always be the shadow of not having gotten there fair and square, and NOW, the guys that have been defeating them actually have a shot at it. As if it wasn’t difficult already to beat Italy, France squezed in “the club” 8 years ago…

The trend with the english is known all over, the dutch disapointed everybody, thre french surprised everybody but will loose Zidane (we’ll loose Figo but there’s plenty of quality back home for that spot), Italy and Germany, Brazil and Argentina are solid pillars. The last two fine underdogs were Turkey and Croatia, but they haven’t had a constant performance at high level, like Portugal.

    Yeah… I’d be scared too, if I was english, for example… ;-)

  • Really
  • Diane

    Pedro P,

Before the WC began nearly a month ago, Ronaldo wasn’t too popular in the UK. He has always been temperamental and a bit of a drama queen in the English League. He did himself no favours with the English,(don’t forget they pay his ‘bread & butter” for the rest of the year) getting involved in the dispute with Rooney. He wasn’t involved in the situation but he took it upon himself to come and get involved with the ref. He should have let well alone, now he is getting the blame, the taunts and the abuse. If he thought he was big enough to take the responsibility of pointing out to the ref it was a foul! then he needs to have broad shoulders and take the slack and negative reports about him. You can’t have your cake and eat it.

  • http://www.worldcupblog.org/world-cup-2006/big-question-which-current-coach-was-the-best-player.html#comments Pedro P

Diane… I’m so fed up of this stupid fight. Just because english and dutch don’t know how to loose and tend to act like little brats, with no notion of respect or values… It kinda hurt to see you put there, on national TV, also Miguel’s injury. I’m sorry, but that says everything about some people’s, or nation’s, character.

Uncle Adolf was defeated by you, some 50 years ago. But he’d sure be proud of the english and the dutch, right now… For having absorbed the right way of thinking and acting…

Sincerelly, better luck next time, for the english or the dutch. I’ve even lost that desire of beating you on the pitch again. Really. It’s beyond that… Let Sweden kick England’s ass again and Germany or Turkey kick Holland’s. We too have our all time nemesis (coincidently, they are FRA and ITA – I guess it wasn’t meant to be for us, this time). To be honest, I only wish our national teams (POR, ENG, HOL) never meet again, and that portuguese (extremelly low budgeted) teams keep on beating english teams in the champions league, portuguese players and coaches keep on being successfull in England.

The only thing I agree with you, Diane, is that indeed C Ronaldo will not get the next nobel prize… He is a tad stupid. Both in his behaviour as well as in his game. But being stupid is not the same as being evil or coward.

  • jayt

i agree with a lot of the suggestions claude said but i think the offsides rule is necessary. what else is stopping teams from keeping a player right next to the goal so that the long ball can be passed to them? goalies need some help..

  • Hannah

in hockey they give penalties for diving.

maybe if they gave out yellow cards for diving then players wouldn’t do it.

I think that the only reason that players get away with it is that one ref can’t see everything. They should have video replay, especially if players protest too much and then if it was really a dive, they can be given yellow or even red cards for wasting the ref’s time and for slowing the game down.

  • LBSD

Come on guys, Frustration it is a very lousy sentiment!

This’s the fouls suffered list for this WC (FIFA source)… maybe sometimes you dive ’cause you had enough of faulty tackles that endanger your career (remember what happened to Eusebio, Pelé, Van Basten…). That’s the only way of some «rugby» players overcome talent. Is it an accident that the best portuguese forwards are on the top of the list? C.Ronaldo will keep on terrorize defenders and try to avoid tackles or bad injuries, even if he has to dive… In this WC, C.Ronaldo was the only player that when got the ball only had eyes to the goal… I like his kind of football, he runs, he dribles, he shoots, it’s football not kick and run or just defend around and wait for a penalty kick or a corner to score… that’s football! That’s C.Ronaldo way!

  • Brendan

Ha, ha, ha losers! Finally referees have got wise to your cheating and you can’t win a game fairly.

  • Tina

I noticed that alot of people especially English fans have jumped on the RONALDO DIVES bandwagon, ALOT of soccer players dive, but Ronaldo is getting flamed for it like no other soccer player, and he is accused of diving when he may not be. Sorry but I think kicking someone in the privates is worst then diving. Also Iam glad Ronaldo is trying to leaving Manchester United. About him being a crybaby, well I have seen plenty of players cry whether they win or lose this world cup. I think most of the people talking Ronaldo are jealous of him and wish they were playing in a World Cup, instead their making judges. I seen Ronaldo play in about 3 matches, and he has alot of talent, and alot of maturing to do. But what young soccer players doesn’t. All the Ronaldo hate makes me like him even more.

“I seen Ronaldo dive 5 times against Germany or 2 times against France”, Iam like get a original idea already, Cause I nor the refs see all this diving.

England lost because they didn’t score a goal , not because Ronaldo caused Rooney to be Red Carded for kicking someone in the nuts. The Ref was right in red carding Rooney. When he gets another Red card next season..who is getting the blame then?

Also Is Rooney a good role model….

  • Carl

English fans understand that Rooney should have been sent off for what he did and English fans also realise that we didn’t play well throughout the tournament. The problem with Ronaldo was highlighted by the fact he ran 10-20 yards to get involved, he then pushes an already angry Rooney and once the Red card was shown he then decides to wink at the bench. Ronalso has been diving all season in the premiership which just does not go down well with the English. If Ronaldo stayed out of the way he would not get the grief he is getting now. Let’s also remember that before this game it was reported that he was going to Real Madrid and now he has the best reason for leaving England.

The English fans expect but the team never deliver

  • bruna

i love c.ronaldo he is one of the best players alive.i pick c.ronaldo over wayne rooney nyday n i pick portugal team over any tema nyday….viva portugal

  • Latefa

i agree with most ppl here. cristiano is still young, and he is not the only diver in the history of football. In football you have to 4get ur opponent and only think of him as an enemy! when Cristiano played against England he only saw enemies, he didnt see rio ferdinand or gary neville nor rooney (his man utd team mates) he plays a bit like maradona. maradona doesnt care who he’s playing against, all he saw was enemies, and thats true football. Cristiano doesnt suit the english league, he is more suitable for the italian and Spanish leagues. all i know for sure is that the Spanish fans are very fond of him. the only reason why cristiano was “booed” against france and Germany was becuz the English fans were present at the match. besides i find Rooney a much more dirty player than Cristiano. Cristiano has nothing to be blamed on, and he shud have won The Best Young Player of the year award..Podolski hardly deserved it.

  • rich cooke

Cristiano Ronaldo is a cheating scum.rooney should off stood on his head!!!!

  • são

I admire a lot of english people I Know and I believe this sad thing of denigrate the way we have seen a talentd young player and a national team is the result of a few stupidity. Reading all that stuff I think we are able to understand better hooligan phenomena in england.I`m glad they can talk of their delusions and express their feelings. It´s maybe a kind of therapy.
