Cock Block: French Rooster Banned from World Cup

By: WC Bob | July 5th, 2006 | 8 Comments »

I remember the moment well. It was in the group stages. The teams were just about to kickoff when the television cameras captured a fan from France with a live rooster in the stands. I remember thinking that it was pretty amazing that a live rooster passed through the ultra tight World Cup security. It turns out the rooster was Balthazar, a mascot for the French team that has been present at 63 international matches.

Alas, Balthazar will not be in attendance for tonight’s semifinal between France and Portugal. The rooster was barred from attending last weekend’s match against Brazil and will not be allowed to show his support if France plays in the final thanks to orders from the German Society for the Protection of Animals.

Balthazar’s owner is considering sending an appeal to France president Jacques Chirac. No word on whether he will point to a certain Portugal player as an example of a cock that will be allowed inside the Munich stadium.

Ok, so let me ask, does this mean that going forwar will the bouncers check for cocks now? What wiil be the consequences if one shall choose to bring a cock along to the game?

btw.. Any relation between “The Cock” and Maradonna’s mystery guest that banned him from seeing the ARG-GER match? Or were they “too chicken” to disclose this information?

LOL. Good one Bob! I am assuming the dig is on C. Ronaldo.
Anyways, I think the decision is so unfair! I was thinking of sacrificing a live goat in the stadium on the next match I attend. Now I am bummed! :(

Err… Vanuatuians… Vanuatuers… well, you’re not good, you don’t speak a lot, but still it’s too much… ;)

As for our national rooster, I don’t see how he’s a security issue… I can understand people saying it’s cruel to bring a rooster to a stadium, but it’s not that obvious for me…

And Diego: they bring all sorts of animals in stadium in the USA (I saw a longhorn and a bear on a football field !), so it should not seem so exotic to you… ;)

Why does the German Society for the Protection of Animals have authority to prevent the rooster being admitted to the stadium? Tell them to mind their own business.
