Coach Maradona

By: WC Bob | April 7th, 2006 | 2 Comments »

The fact that Maradona has his eyes on the Argentina coaching job isn’t new news. His name has been bandied about for the position for a few years and he has said before that he is interested in being involved with his country’s team. Personally, I’d love to see Maradona on the sidelines. He is such a colorful figure that his mere presence would liven up the World Cup in 2010. Hidden in this article, however, is the news that he will be in Germany this summer. Again, this might not be new news, but it is great news. Images of the grainy pictures of Maradona half cocked in a German beer hall are already floating through my mind. Between the President of Iran, Maradona and thousands of hooligans, this World Cup is shaping up to be one fabulous party. I don’t know what the prize will be, but we’ll have one for anyone who sends us a picture of Diego partying in Germany.

Saw Maradona on tv at a Boca Juniors game recently and he had his shirt off and was waving a Boca scarf around. He looked like he’d lost about 150lbs and was back to his playing weight of twenty years ago.

Nice to hear he’s back in fighting form. If his future coaching skills are anywhere near his past playing skills, watch out for Argentina 2010. How about 2006-Brazil and 2010-Argentina?
