Clichéwatch™: Don’t Laugh at the Swiss

By: WC Bob | May 10th, 2006 | 1 Comment »

Don’t you love it when athletes cry about not being respected? Today’s mouthpiece for said cause is Switzerland striker Alexander Frei who wants to wipe the smile off your face during the World Cup. “I want us to make the world stand up and take notice,” he said. “People are always laughing about Swiss football and now it is up to us to put a stop to that.”

We don’t know about you, but we have never laughed at Swiss football. We’re usually too busy laughing at their team World Cup bus slogan - “2006, it’s Swiss o’clock”. We’re also too busy laughing at the Swiss tourism board video that is designed to lure football widows to the country during the World Cup.

Nope, Frei’s team isn’t nearly as funny or sexy as those things. Only when he starts carrying a pitchfork and looks longingly into our eyes, only then we’ll give him a chuckle.

To bad the article sez that Frei leads the french league in scoring… when in fact it was last year that he led.

Momma Mia!
