By Oliver Kahn’s Logic, Germany would have won with him in Goal

By: WC Bob | December 22nd, 2006 | 8 Comments »

Oliver Kahn is apparently a man of logic and by his own logic if Germany coach Jurgen Klinsmann had named him the number one keeper instead of Jens Lehmann his country would have won the World cup on its own soil.

“I’m not criticising what Jens Lehmann did, but with me Germany would have been world champions,” Kahn, 37, told weekly magazine Stern.

“I’m convinced of it because the way my career has evolved points in that direction.”

“In 1994 with Karlsruhe I reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup - two years later I won this trophy with Bayern Munich,” he explained.

“In 1999, I lost the Champions League final in the harshest circumstances (losing 2-1 to Manchester United in stoppage time) before winning this competition two years later.

“Finally I lost the 2002 World Cup final (against Brazil).

“This logic, and I really believe in the law of series, should have continued at the 2006 World Cup,” said Kahn.

The only flaw that I find with Kahn’s logic is that Lehmann played quite well during the World Cup and I’m not sure what Ollie could have done any better other than perhaps break a few Italian legs in the semifinals and scowl so much that he would have scared the Azzurri into shitting their pants.

HEY HEY HEY! I believe Oliver in full stride. Lehman does not have nearly as much expirience as Oliver does. Oliver has proven to be ther better keeper for Germany. If Oliver had played, we would not have lost.

“Kahn, who had 86 caps for Germany, was captain of the team that went to the World Cup final in 2002, where it lost to Brazil 2-0. He won the Golden Ball award given to the most valuable player of the 32-team tournament.”

Thank you very much. The only reason Jens will start in 2010 is because Kahn retired.
