Bulgarian Prisoners Sew Mouths Shut to Watch World Cup

We’ve read a lot of stories about the length people will go to watch the World Cup but this one might take the cake. A couple of convicts in a prison in Bulgaria have sewn their mouths shut and are refusing to eat until they are allowed to watch the matches in their jail cell. The prisoners, whose demands seem reasonable enough considering they aren’t even asking to see the games in high definition, have left a small part of their mouths unstitched so that they can smoke. Mexico coach Ricardo Lavolpe would approve.

The director of the prison said, “”I am negotiating with them to convince them that sealing their mouths is not the way to put forward their demands, which are unrealistic.”

The only thing I can think of that would be worse than sewing your mouth shut would be to sew your mouth shut and still not be able to watch Switzerland play Togo, while sitting in a prison in Bulgaria.

Your life and mine could be much worse than it is, my friends. Enjoy the matches. Enjoy having a mouth that isn’t sewn shut.

Oh my. For goodness sake, give ‘em a TV.

Or at least let the guards re-enact all of the games using four men and a canned ham.

    Something.

This thread touches on the No.1 problem in Germany when viewing the Cup publicly: NASTY smoking! This miserable habit is unhealthy, annoying to others, and totally unnecessary. La Volpe also has NO business smoking anywhere within 500 meters of a stadium at any time. HE should be locked up if he does! Trying to work most days in Frankfurt between some of these Cup matches, I am open to anyone who knows where there is a decent viewing venue in the city with NO smoking. I would guess one doesn’t exist. Germany is barbaric in this regard!
