Building Your Own Couch Potato Lounge

My expat sister came to visit from Germany a few days ago and brought with her the World Cup themed IKEA catalogue. It’s in German so I might be losing things in translation, but it seems to include not only those match viewing staples of couches and TV stands, but some special World Cup viewing accessories. Some highlights from the back pages include:

Beer Hangers: A canvas pouch for the side of your couch with pockets for the remote and two beers, or if you’re like us, three beers.

A couch sized rubber band ball: I don’t think it’s for sale, but it’s being kicked by a house sized amalgamation of IKEA furniture fastened together to form a footballer. I don’t know what kind of power having a bookcase for a knee gives you, but this thing will probably hold up better than John O’Brien.

Sock Frame: It’s a picture frame with a sock in it hanging on a wall. Is IKEA trying to make a subtle joke about American “Soc”cer? I don’t get it, but I don’t speak German.

World Cup themed ice cube trays: the best part about this one is that in the catalogue there is a guy holding the ice cube tray to his head looking hung over. We feel you, buddy.
