Breaking News: Someone picks Brazil to win World Cup

Details are still unconfirmed, but reports coming out of England indicate that someone in that country has predicted that Brazil will win the upcoming World Cup tournament. Sources claim that a group of academic and commercial researchers, “boffins” if you’re from the right part of the globe, have a computer model that will pick the winners of the upcoming games. According to the model, the Brazilian team has a 13% chance of taking the trophy.

My mathematical formula, inspired by a book and several websites, has Brazil winning it too, but without that annoying 83% possibility of losing. And it’s so easy I can teach it to you right now. Just take 3,968, (enter it into your calculator if you need to, I did) then subtract the year that the World Cup is taking place, so for this year, 2006. The answer you get is the year that the team that is going to win this year also won the cup. If you can’t follow, take 3964-2006=1958. The winner in 1958: Brazil. It works for the last six World Cup tournaments, except for France’s 1998 championship, when 1966 champion England proved the fallibility of this formula just to spite me.

In other, equally dubious World Cup predictions, EA sports played out the entire World Cup on “2006 FIFA World Cup” and found that the Czech Republic was the best team in their video game. And after scouring the Internet, World Cup Blog found someone predicting a team other than Brazil to be champions. Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta thought Argentina was going to win. His reasoning: “I want to be a little different because everybody is saying Brazil.”

Thanks for going out on a limb, Mikel.

Errr, mistake in article. You mean “without that annoying 87% chance of losing”, not 83%. If the computer gives them a 13% chance of winning.

………………..1978 – argentina

my tarot cards say Brazil won’t reach the semis. Italy will win – easily. All other nations may as well pack their bags and go home now.

Very funny post Peter…. Too funny!!!

Considering all things I would say that Brazil has the greatest chance of all teams to win, but then again, some that play lotto with odds 6 Million to 1 win once in a while!

Would that mean that all the merchandise marked with 5 stars would become obsolete or would it just increase its value as “antique”?

I am very sure Brazil should have win this world Cup but the problem is the Coach should have put Robinho and Adrinano in the first half, if he have watch how the French team played he should know that the secound half they all played defence. Another thing is Kaka should played in the midfield with Ronaldino.
