Brazil officially bids for 2014 World Cup

Everyone knew that Brazil would be the only country bidding to host the 2014 World Cup and Tuesday they made it official. All it took was printing off 900 pages and presenting a dossier to FIFA. If it is that easy why didn’t anyone else bid?

Oh yeah, it is because FIFA has all but announced that the 2014 World Cup will be there. Always one to cover his backside, however, head honcho Sepp Blatter recommends that we all hold off on booking our flights to South America for now.

“For the time being Brazil has not yet been given the World Cup,” Blatter said shortly ahead of Tuesday’s formal handover.

“If something should happen to the Brazil bid, then we still have time to start again as we are a year in advance of the decision-making process for previous World Cups.”

Little is actually known about the content of those 900 pages that Brazil submitted, but evidently they list 18 cities that would like to be considered as potential host cities. FIFA will make the final call in October and it would be shocking if that final call didn’t send the World Cup back to a country that last hosted it in 1950.
