Brazil didn’t just play like they were drunk at the 2006 World Cup
It is no secret that Brazil didn’t live up to expectation during the 2006 World Cup. The team played lethargic football at times, the type of football you might expect a Sunday league team to play after a heavy night of drinking. According to the president of Brazil’s football federation, some of the players were slightly less than focused on winning the big cup.
A year after Brazil’s quarterfinal elimination in Germany, Ricardo Teixeira said a group of players lacked discipline during the World Cup, but did not mention anyone specifically, the Estado de S. Paulo newspaper reported Wednesday.
“There were players who arrived between 4 and 6 in the morning, drunk,” Teixeira said.
Four and six in the morning? That was an early night out for me in Germany. No wonder I didn’t see any of the players.
Somehow this story has “Adriano” written all over it. I wonder how many other teams at the World Cup had players that partied late into the night during their off days. My guess is that Brazil weren’t the only ones.
Yes, I’m looking at you, Saudi Arabia.
