Blessed Mexico Heads for Europe

By: WC Bob | May 21st, 2006 | No Comments »

Now that the World Cup is mere weeks away, countries are hoping that divine intervention will help their teams. In Mexico on Saturday, the national team received blessings from religious leaders before departing for their training camp in Europe. “You are the centre of attention for many who admire you,” Catholic Cardinal Norberto Rivera told the players. “Carry the colours of the flag with pride.” If that doesn’t fire you up, I don’t know what will. Across the pond, the Church of England has published prayers for the World Cup on its website. And in my bedroom each night I focus my thoughts on Angola lifting the trophy on July 9. Keep the faith.
