Blatter: The World Cup is My Toy
This might come as a bit of a surprise to you Germans out there, but the World Cup does not belong to you. After you are done giving it a test ride, FIFA head Sepp Blatter and his cronies want it back. Blatter, in a move similar to a 3-year-old screaming for her toy, declared today that the World Cup belongs to FIFA and if you don’t ask nicely he won’t share it with you.
“I need to be clear about this once and for all: the World Cup does not belong to Germany, this is not a German World Cup. It is a FIFA World Cup in Germany that cost us 1 billion Swiss francs (435 million pounds),” Blatter told top-selling German daily Bild in an interview.
What Blatter did not tell the newspaper is that FIFA will be making much more money off this fiesta than it has put into it and that Blatter himself will walk away from Germany with a fair number of coins in his pocket. Nor did he mention that amount of money Germany has spent to make the tournament a success.
Addressing the issue of why the pisswater known as Budweiser will be served at German stadiums, Blatter apparently decided that maybe this is Germany’s World Cup after all.
“It was on the basis of these ground rules that Germany was given the World Cup,” Blatter said. “They approved them, not only the German Football Association (DFB) but also the government.”
Blatter had no comment when asked about World Cup Blog’s exclusive expose about how he spends his waking hours.

The media should have taken Sepp Blatter’s statement, and divided it in half.
Then, they should have printed five and only five of the words from the first half of his statement, and five other words from the other half of his statement.
Any further comment by Mr. Blatter on this subject should be summarized by the media in no more that two words.

[...] There’s one thing we, as a diverse group of football enthusiasts (read: nuts), can agree on: FIFA can be one confounding, arrogant organization. It doesn’t help that FIFA is headed by Sepp Blatter, who enjoys picking on websites and maniacally laughing while counting his money. Today several Ecuadorian media outlets have taken the time to vent their frustrations and air their complaints against FIFA. Why today? I can’t say, but it’s all sort of depressing. At least there is a new set of World Cup bras out there to distract us from the boring administrative minutiae of the beautiful game. [...]
