Big Question: Who has been the most disappointing World Cup player?

Some players had a lot of hype heading into the World Cup and their performance during the competition has gone a long way to justify it. Others were expected to lead their teams to glory but their play was less than spectacular and their teams are sitting at home right now.

Of all the players in the World Cup, which one disappointed you the most with their play?

  • Eddie

Either the italian who elbowed mcbride, reyna…or maybe the whole S&M team, 0-6? come on.

  • carldec

Micheal Owen and Wayne Rooney were a huge disappointment. Both looked terrible…

Landon Donavan was a ghost and did nothing at all in his 3 games.

Ruud van Nistelrooy was also a big disapointment. But that seemed to be a coaching snub.

One thing that we did not see this cup was the emergance of a young star. Was there any player under 20 that has made an impression? Messi for Argentina might have done well if given more minutes.

  • ejesse

I agree, Messi should have been the breakout young talent of this cup and he didn’t get to play. Boo Pekerhead. At least he resigned.

  • ejesse

Sorry, that was sort of off topic. Ronaldinho is probably the biggest disappointment. He made some nice dribbles and a few good passes, but not exactly World Player of the Year stuff.

  • Mike S

Frank Lampard should be a huge disappointment to English fans and Jared Borghettia for Mexicans. But the obvious choice is Ronaldinho, who clearly did not live up to the hype.

  • http://espn abcc

ivan klansic of croatia was out of shape but scroe for his club ever time like hat trick !

  • Russel

I think Ronaldinho. the big disappointment.

  • Kevin

    Theo Walcott.

  • Ash

Ronaldinho! Hands down. Second place: Wayne Rooney, tho he was recovering and played only one full match.

  • Sccrgrmany

I think overall the US didn’t live up to any of the hype…however among players I would have to toss my hat in with Ronaldinho..Brazil got smoked by France in a game with maybe only 3? shots on goal by the Brazilians..

  • Stefan

Rooney may have been injured but his temper really disapointed me in the end. His play was not the best either but the red card takes the cake with disapointment. I know Ronaldinho did not play great but I think he wanted to distribute the ball with his more veteran teammates like Kaka and Ronaldo. Ronaldinho is too unselfish for his own good.

  • Jamie

The entire Brazilian team. So much talent and everyone playing as individuals and not a team. Beckham, Did not play or act as a captain. I’d say the Americans but they just don’t have the talent or skills as the rest of the world. What did we score 1 goal?

  • Odin

Without a doubt Sohrab Bakhtiarizadeh. I was expecting him to shine…

  • monty

Brazil in general and Ronaldinho in particular. The bubble burst before great zidane and his boys.

  • kiran

i think most of english players ,specially steven gerrard who makes immpossible to possible like in uefa cup and fa cup.but did not perform and missed penalty ,also lampard who shots from long range and miss penalty

  • Rose

Hands down Ronaldinho. I agree with Stefan, he is far too unselfish / modest while he has the skills to control the game like the masterful Zidane. Instead, he hides in Ronaldo’s shadow…whose spotlight, in my opinion, should not be that bright (especially after that dive at the end of the match with France). Hopefully after France’s victory, the media will stop kissing Brazil’s you-know-what.

  • http://none Wofton Levy

Lampard, Rooney, Beckham, Ronaldinho, Brazil, Argentina’s coach, Bruce Arena

  • rescorpione17

Ronaldinho…he was supposed to lead the team and had no leading role…awfully insufficient.

  • Not From Bermuda

    Lampard and Ronaldinho.

  • Natalie

ronaldinho of course, and for the portuguese pauleta.

  • rescorpione17

    …and Ibrahimovic..what a flop he has been!

  • Bobbio

Ronaldo. He wasn’t as fat as he could’ve been.

  • bunburina

Rooney and Ronaldinho… just bad, bad, bad!!

  • rene sosa

langdon donovan, what a waste of talent! he is in debt with all the fans in america.

  • Kendall

    The nominees:
    Ronaldinho
    Lampard
    Landon Donovan

    The winner is..
not Lampard: did we honestly expect anything else from him or England (cursed, poor lads)
not Donovan: he should be on your list of over-hyped players along w/ the enitre US MNT
Ronaldinho is your winner, Zidane played like the 3 time player of the year that he is, Ronaldino seemed to be missing the much speedier and lively Eto from Barca as opposed to big fat lazy Ronaldo

  • Alexandra

ALL IN AGREEMENT TO Ronaldinho SAY I! LOL WOW THE WHOLE BRAZILIAN TEAM WAS A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT BECAUSE THEY ARE SUPPOSELY QOUTE “THE BEST TEAM EVER”PSSH W/E REWIND TO THE GAME AGAINST FRANCE COME ON EVERYBODY WANTED TO SCORE AND BE THE “STAR” THEY WEREN’T A TEAM EVERYBODY WAS PLAYIN THEIR OWN GAME….BUT THEY DESERVE THE OUTCOME BECAUSE THEY PLAYED POORLY!

  • Luis

Ronaldinho Gaucho, without a doubt. As the recognized best all-around player in the game today, he neither played like a star nor imposed his will when his team needed him to. A very subdued performance from him, regardless of the results of the matches. Fans expect more out of players with such creative talent.

  • hernandez

I think is RONALDINHO the whole world wanted to see RONALDINHO,the one they who plays in La liga and made soccer look easy.

  • http://www.3kilos.co.uk James

I agree with most of the above, another disapointment for me was Nedved.

  • Ken

Brazil were perhaps the most disappointing – they are capable of much much better. Ronaldo and Ronaldinho just didn’t turn up.

As for England, they didn’t put in one inspiring performance but Frank Lampard has to be singled out as the biggest disappointment. Umteen easy chances to score – including a penalty – missed em all! Why, oh why was he played in every match?

  • Cajun Nick

Considering that Ronaldinho is the reigning World Player of the Year, I’d have to vote for him.

However, I think that, really, the whole Brazilian squad – from top to bottom – was a MAJOR disappointment.

Ibrahimovic would have been a bust, except that he’s been in a slump for a while (ask Juve fans), and a lot of people knew he wouldn’t do much.

For Americans, I’d say that Landon Donovan was the biggest bust. McBride didn’t look great, but that was tactical. Some might argue that Donovan’s disappearing act was due to Arena’s tactics, too. However, Donovan’s role is to MAKE things happen.

(Beas is a close second to LD; however, like Zlatan, he’s been down for a while – ask PSV fans.)

  • http://Unitedstates courtney

Rolnaldinho and Gerrard they did terrible

  • Hans

A lot of the criticism belongs to all of the trainers (managers) for not teaching their players how to shoot LOW from any distance. Far to many shots went “air mail”. (From a player who played 19 years.)

  • Marcy

Man! The people who have so far posted comments really know their football.

I totally agree with what everyone has been saying.

1st place – Ronaldinho Gaucho – definitely off his game and, like someone wrote, far too humble and subdued

2nd – Frank Lampard – a huge disappointment for whom I believe was FIFA runner up to Ronaldinho

3rd – Ballack – Chelsea payed a fortune for his transfer – he has certainly not proven to have been a wise investment

How about the biggest surprise? I won´t put any name forward before reading the excellent comments that may be posted.

  • ronaldinhoisthebest

Ronaldinho didn’t shine, but it was Parreira’s fault. He didn’t play in the same position he does with FC Barcelona where he has become the best player of the year. You can’t give someone a different job and expect the same results. And I agree with the other post, Eto’o and Messi (FCB team mates) are very different from old fat lazy Ronaldo.

  • TV Viewer

Few honorable mentions mostly omitted before:
    - Harry Kewell – “the wizard of Oz” – collects yellows much more than scores
    - Spanish midfield – the best and the deepest in the world
    - Serbian defence – the most stingy in Europe
    - Shevchenko – very good at clipping himself in the penalty box
    - Adriano – the prolific scorer from off-sides
But the mother of all disappointments of course is the guy with monogram headband

  • Earl

The most disappointing was the USA team, especially, Donvan and Beasly, did they even play? And, Bruce Areana who did not change tactics in the 2nd half against Ghana

  • A Gorilla

The biggest disappointment is Ronaldinho. Maybe we were expecting too much after the Joga Bonito commercials.
    Runner-up? Lampard.

  • Claudio

The biggest disappointment was the Brazilian team. Starting with the coach. They had the best players in the world, but, that is not enough in soccer. They must play as a team and that never happened. Parreira insisted having Cafu , R. Carlos, Adriano and Ronaldo. If You guys think about, against Japan( I know it is not a strong team)they palyed a lot better and even against France after some changes the team started playing better ( much better), but then there was not enough time.

  • http://www.club810.com Dinu

For the sake of putting up someone other than Lampard and Ronaldinho, though I can see arguments for both being clearly true. I think Ruud Van Nistelrooy was awful for the Dutch, just had almost no effect on any of their games.

    In defense of Ronaldinho:

Although he failed to impress, you have to remember that the position he played on all games (except for the last one) was a position different than the one he plays at Barcelona. He was more of a midfielder more than of a mid/forward (because Brazil was already playing with two advanced forwards). He was supposed to start most plays, but hardly kick it to the goal.

In most accounts, he *did* accomplish that – if you watch Brazil’s games, some of the best passes came from him. He made some great passes to Kaká and Ronaldo. It still wasn’t enough, and I still think the guy didn’t deliver (not as, say, Zidane on the match against Brazi), but it’s *far* from being such a disappointment. People will have this impression just because he role wasn’t so “visual” as one would be led to expect.

  • http://zeal.haliluya.org/blog zeal

It’s definetely Ronaldinho. This World Cup is supposed to be a Ronaldinho’s world cup. However, it turns out not.

  • Pete

I’m English living in the U.S.
I’m so disapointed at the way England have been trained, these are some of the finest players in the world, you have to create a plan for them to be able to play like one of the best teams in the world.I understand that the coaches don’t have that much time with the players but picking a squad that could possibly play as a winning team is a big part of the selection process.Management. Hopefully things will change.I’m sure Lampard will tell you himself that he was appauling. If Ronaldino of Portugal sets foot in Manchester he’s got more gaul than I give him credit for after what he did to Rooney. For you Rooney, grow up, take the verbal abuse, if they know you’re going to bite at every line, you’re gonna be in trouble kid. When you get back to practice at Man.U. give Ronaldo an extra nutting from me. Cheers.

  • seth

RONALDINHO!!! the u.s shouldnt be counted because they can hype all they want about their team and how they love football but at the end no one would listen..

  • http://permagnus.com/ Oskar Syahbana

Peter Crouch. He can’t even hit the ball. If he scored anything, it’s because the ball hit him!

Sheez… why on earth on this tournament does England looked like they have a hard time finding a good striker…

  • Andrés

Wayne Beast Boy Rooney. All this expectation for him to come and show his beastly side. Bye Rooney. I disagree with the people who rant about Ronaldinho Gaúcho: he did his part, which was playing a sacrificed game to uphold Parreira poor tactics. In the replays you will see him distributing the ball and putting his teamates in scoring positions that they missed. Parreira just cut Ronaldinho’s wings. Messi is too young. He will be great.

  • fbrown

Couldn’t agree more with the disappointed Ronaldinho fans…he (and the Brazilian team) was the reason I was watching the world cup. He exhibited none of the skills that were hyped by the media. Against France, the team was entirely useless and acted uninterested in winning..what a disgrace for all soccer fans and Brazil. They should be fined for throwing the game… a total letdown!!

  • http://aol Joan

The entire US team made me very sad. They really didn’t seem ready to play at this level – very fit- but not ready for WC play.

The UK team – losing on pks!!!!

The Brazilins – they all need to wake up and stop being “STARS” and just play the game.

I have loved all the drama and the intensity and the remarkable coverage on XM radio channel 148!!!!!!!!It has been outstanding! I listened to the Polandv Germany game on XM and almost drove off the road!

The facilities are beautiful to see and I love the games!

  • dirk

I think the entire English team. So much talent and so little performance. Ronaldhino may not have lived up to his billing on Saturday, but the British team as a whole was a huge disappointment.

  • carlos

i think brazil because of the players they have, and us team.

  • Bdog Cutler

I think there is several disappointing players in this World Cup. The most surprising to me was Landon Donavon. He is the cover boy for u.s soccer and he did nothing. For the world I would have to say Ronaldihno he just didn’t show us how amazing he is.

  • shdowfox17

i saw aome teams do great like ecuador while other “star Teams” did nothin
some my answer to dat question is:brazil
    champs pf the world?
they played like poland in da 1st round
ronaldinho should get naturalized in da us and win da world cup here
    yea…

  • cecilia

Wayne Rooney, Mr Tantrum & Ronaldinho, Mr Invisible.

  • Marie

I’m English and living in the USA. Gutted about England’s performance in this tournament. Why did Sven play it safe so much? Why in the last few minutes didn’t he give Walcott a chance to prove himself….remember Michael Owen in 1998? But why o why were the penalties such a disaster, I cannot believe they were not put away when these are players earning a fortune in their domestic clubs. Was I the only person who thought Crouch was a waste of time, he lacks pace and is clumsy.

  • Ralf

Most people would say the entire US team was a big disappointment. I disagree, because it was clear that they never had a chance to begin with.

The biggest disappointment was Ronaldinho and the entire Dutch team…

  • Tim

I’m English and living in the U.S. We need a mangaer with passion not some robot from Sweden. We need a team who inspires belief that they can win something and not a statue who sits on the sidelines robbing the England fans of their money and hope. SAM ALLARDYCE or MARTIN O’NEILL would be the fans best choice unlike the “English” Sven Steve Mclaren….let’s hope that we can turn it around in 2012.
I cannot nominate a single player but I nominate the system and the F.A. need to take responsibilty for their decision to give Sven the job in the first place.

  • expat

brazil generally…usa definitely after all the hype…england hustled but never looked convincing.

look forward to seeing ghana in 4 years

  • expat

i would also agree with wofton about bruce arena. totally unprofessional (press conference comments re beasley) and lacking in basic coaching skills

  • dirk

England needs an English coach, much like Germany needs a German coach. It’s a pride thing, and the English have gotten so caught up in the Premier League that they’ve lost focus on the national team. England could be marvelous, but they need the commitment that the Germans, Italians, Argentines and Brazilians give to the national team.

  • Tim

I want to point out why I put 2012 as our next tournament…I am disregarding the European championship in 2008 and the next World Cup in 2010!…here’s to the European Championships in 2012 when Steve McLaren WILL NOT be the England Manager!!

  • Matt Viglianco

I’d Say Brazil. They have way to many talented players and there is obvious tension on a team full of superstars. Too much talent does not always lead to good team play, and that was evident in every game that they played.

  • dirk

Tim, that’s a long time to wait, don’t you think?

  • expat

of course, we are all overlooking the referees in this world cup, who had everyone so paranoid about being sent off that the players could not play the game as they normally would. i think i maybe saw 4 games where the officiating was halfway decent

  • Tim

Dirk..I’m English so am used to the disappointment..it’s been 40 years since we won the World Cup.

  • Okey Benson(San Francisco)

Well, untill the final match is played, rushing to conclusion may be a mistake. There may be yet more disappoints. Rhonaldinho is a soccer power-house but fall short to score even a goal. But what role did he play in assisting others who scored?

  • dirk

Well, Tim, I’m German and (despite the question of whether we should have ever lost in 66 to begin with) I still think the English are better than they have shown us. I want to see England play like they can.

  • expat

well dirk, i am a brit too, and leaving 66 aside *l*, i was delighted to see the way germany have played under klinsmann

  • C.C

Rooney who seemed more like an escapee from maximum security prison didn’t play too intelligently, Ronaldinho who was obviously more worried about his hair then being more agressive in aproaching the net, Maxi Rodriguez faking injuries by taking dives, and acting all psycho after Argentinas loss to Germany, team USA but NOT everyone the GOALY WAS EXCELLENT. And lastly, I’m a fan, but Mexico’s team spent more time clowning around with the ball then shooting! The object of the game is to put the dang ball in the net, that simple. Just ask Ronaldo, he can still pull it off even with that big butt.

  • Luke

All of England….Walcott never even got on the pitch (it should have been Defoe!!!!), Lampard, Rooney big time….and Sven needs to be tarred and feathered, terrible managing

  • dirk

Aargh! and now I have to admit that the French played great football against Brazil. Germany and France would be a great game. Portugal has been, well, less than entertaining.

  • Fernanda

As a brazilian who loves soccer since the crib times, I can tell you that Brazil got this far because of Ronaldinho passes to the other players.
His position did not help at all, but that boy gave all he had!!
Every World cup is the same thing….critizing Brasil but often we get to the finals!!!
    Give us a break!!!

  • oishi

i have to say ronaldinho even hes my fav player he didn’t do anything at all!!!
and brazil really needs to get to work!! i was upset abt their loss.
    rooney shud cool his temper.
    beckham was ok.
    but u.s. team rele sucked.

  • dirk

But this was not Brazil’s best team. I hate to say it, but I think Argentina was the team to beat until they ran into Germany. It was Germany’s best performance in a decade.

  • expat

dirk, i dont know about argentina…except for one moment of brilliance, i thought mexico had the beating of them

  • Tim

Dirk…I have enjoyed watching Germany play. They are a team who play “clinical” football and they deserve to be where they are. Their penalty attempts are amazing and England should take a few lessons from them.

  • Luke

as far as pleasant surprises I think Owen Hargreaves showed great heart and played fantastic, a lot of people in England were knocking his inclusion in the squad but he proved his worth

  • dirk

Expat, I agree. Mexico had a great team this year. They deserved better

  • dirk

I thought Owen was tremendous. He was England!

  • Patricia

Ronaldinho – he is the world’s best player, but we haven’t seen much of him in the WC stage.
Brazillian team – the 5 times champion with all the talented players the world could have.

  • Guildenstern

I would have to go for Herman the German. He spent more time sratching his balls than passing it around

  • Raybron

Messi should have played. But his name should not even be mentioned here even in counterargument. He was astonishing when he played. I will certainly wear my Messi Argentina jersey with pride.

Most disappointing player not mentioned so far for me was Reyna. A true shame for him to basically give the US’s best chance away on the last play of his international career. Ah, but if only his shot against the Czechs, that went off the INSIDE of the post, had gone in. Such is football.

  • Raybron

Correction- I notice one other person did mention Captain America.

  • BH

I think Ronaldinho didn’t live up to his FIFA player of the year status. Wayne Rooney didn’t play the way he usually does, and sadly enough, the team that came in with the best defense ends up going home without a single point on the board, Serbia Montenegro.

  • Patricia

hhey, i’ve been doing some searching and found an interesting fact, that is that the team where the world’s best player were in will never be the World Cup Champion. Here’re some of the examples :

WC 2006 – Ronaldinho (BRA) best player 2005 – Brazil lost to France in quater-final.
WC 2002 – Luis Figo (POR) best player 2001 – Portugal ended as the 3rd in group D and couldn’t go through to knock-out round.
WC 1998 – Ronaldo (BRA) best player 1997 – Brazil lost to France in final round.
WC 1994 – Roberto Baggio (ITA) best player 1993 – Italy lost to Brazil in final round.

    would you believe it?

  • dirk

Guidenstern: you have no business communicating on this site. If ou have nothing positive to add, just stay home in US controlled Kuwait

  • Rana

I think the coaches are the most disappointment. They didn’t make the correct selection of their team. Someone like messy, robinho should have get chance to play 90 mins soccer to prove themselves.

  • http://www.worldcupblog.org patrick

This 2006 worldcup is full dissapoiting affairs by view of my opinion,to others, but its the most worldcup i have enjoyed!!!!
coins are interchanging its side day by day…keep us posted!
    patrick from kenya.
    pakinyson@yahoo.com

  • TD

Ronaldinho is by far the biggest disappointment of this World Cup. He does not deserve the No. 10 jersey, considering players like Riquelme & Zidane don the same.

  • http://www.littlegreenfootballs.com/ minhoca

    biggest disappointment: Parreira

with Filipão Brasil would have won again… look what he did with the Portugal team (a country with 10% the population of Brasil)

  • mara1ona

Arjen Robben – was brilliant the 1st match then totally went to sh*t.

    What a letdown!

  • DT

    Ronaldinho
    Riquelme
    Ballack
    Henry
    Adriano

  • dirk

How about the best surprise! Kewell and the Socceroos! I loved it!!!!

  • heman

the winner is Ronaldinho, hands down!and Brazil, the team and the coach.I do not know how Carlos got his job if you saw him play in the’98 debacle. I remember the Bob’s live blog which said in the match against Croatia,”Carlos can fire away over the cross bar all night”!
    not to miss pekerman,lampard,Schevchenko,Nedved..

  • http://hotmail köseoğlu

germany has proven that is tournament team evertime Germany is the biggest suprise

  • Raybron

“How about the best surprise! Kewell and the Socceroos! I loved it!!!!”

I predicted three years ago that Australia would not only qualify but do well in the World Cup. When I was talking about it with my friend he called me nuts. I also picked France to win it all this cup, so we’ll see. But I am a big Kewell & Viduka fan (though to be fair they didn’t play as large a role in the Australian success as I thought they would).

  • Claude

Ballack a disappointment? You have to be kidding. His job this time is to anchor down the German defense. Klinsi doesn’t want Ballack out there leading the attack but to be in charge of helping his young defense. Ballack gave his all in the Argentina game. He could barely run anymore but he didn’t quit like Beckham. As a matter of fact when it came to the PKs he was there and put his kick away.
The biggest disappointment has to go to the whole Brazilian team. A good case could also be made for the Argentinian behavior after their PK defeat.

  • http://endroo.blogspot.com/ endroo G

Theo Walcott ! So much hype about him.

He was some unknown kid and suddenly Swen brought him to World Cup but did not give chance to make an appearance..at least as a sub. Till now, anyone seen how he looked like & how good is him in football?

In the end, Theo just earned a free, all-expenses paid trip to Germany and chance to watch World Cup.

  • http://www.worldcupzone.blogspot.com Ade Lamidi

Ronaldinho was the biggest disappointed in my opinion. He was anonymous in the Champions League final for Barca and just couldn’t get it going in this World Cup also.

  • dirk

Why oh why do the English not come to play in the world cup? Such great players and yet they don’t seem to show up

  • troy

this world cup will be remembered for the wrong reasons. the only thing that will be talked about in 4 years time is the refs and the winner. unlike ronaldo who starred last world cup there hasnt been one single stand out player this tornament because the refs have hijacked the cup. and i cant even pinpoint a crap player becuase who has really noticed becuase of the refs. this tornament has been nothing but disapointing with few highlights and too few games games that had any sort of excitement. too big egos from both the refs and players have ruined the cup with not one player being able to match the hype created by the media before the cup.

  • dirk

well, all that being true, it was a great world cup for fans. The oranizing committee went out of its way to make it a fan event, and I think for those that were able to make it, that is far more important. My sense was that the fans had a great time

  • troy

they did, but it would be nice if the teams they were supporting were given a fair go and the refs remembered that they dont have enyone in the crowd barracking for them.

  • Dave Hamilton

Ronaldinho, and I thought I’d never say it. I would trade 1,000 Barca championships for that one QF win the other day. Ronaldinho MUST learn that representing Brasil DWARFS the importance of any league game. It is with the Selecao where his legacy will truly be made — or not.

    Dave hamildav@yahoo.com

  • Terror

Ronaldinho, what else to say when he keeps passing the ball to the opposite team…….

  • troy

perhaps the media shouldnt say things like ronaldinho’s tornament he will own it. that just puts too much pressure on him. its a team game and sometimes doing the team things is just getting down and dirty and not doing the showman things. he was still good. but there are 21 other world class players on the field that have a say in proceedings.

  • Denni

Rooney da Looney without a doubt, but then I missed the Brazil match.

Leave Beckham alone. He was not well, he battled bravely and he scored a great goal. Sadly, he’s resigned as England captain.

  • Pedro

I think Ronaldinho shoud have shown us more. But he’s still the world’s best.

  • lola

i think rooney should have the title.. cos how he pressed btn legs and push ronaldo and got the red card …how he destroy english fu**er fans expectation

  • Lulu

Man, toughie here! I can’t choose one, so herewith a few thoughts. First, I have a comment on Donovan.

I’ve travelled abroad a lot, and he honestly reminded me of someone who has picked up a parasite and doesn’t know it. I am not making a joke here. You keep going and don’t even realize what’s going on for months because it is such a slow process. Then, you finally get down enough and have some weird tests and they give you ridiculous numbers of drugs and you go “Oh, man, I was kinda sick!” Really, not kidding here.

The big disappointments for me were general: Lack of teamwork with some, lack of good refs in many instances, and general thuggery like headbutting, stomping, vicious elbows, and the like. Diving goes without saying!

  • gdawg

Easily rooney i mean what a fu**ing idiot who agrees? He lived up to no hype and proved himself to be the dumbest a**hole in soccer…also Landon Donavon hyped up to nothing…

  • gdawg

also yeah ronaldinho was quiet for some reason i dont think he WANTED to play…like thats not the ronaldinho i know anyway

  • gdawg

also dirk isnt juergen klinnsman german sorry if i didnt spell it right? so the germans do have a german coach

  • Jim-o

Hype, hype, glitz, glitz going down, down, down. The year of the underdogs! Who can captain national stars all blinded by the spotlight? Not Ronaldinho. Not Beckham. Not Reyna, either(US underdogs were acting like bully of the block). Wouldn’t be surprised to see Ronaldinho quit as captain. . .
FIFA is the 800 pound gorilla in this room. The fan fun committee = money. The FIFA media hype = money. The refereeing and other decisions = control, and that has sucked the blood out of the games. FIFA has had a drastic effect on this Cup. They are the worst player on this stage.
Red card – gdawg. This ain’t no bar.

gdawg klinsmann is german but they give him a hard time for living in southern california and marrying an american chick. hey if they don’t want him though maybe the us team can get him god knows we need a decent coach.

ronaldinho disappointed me the most because i know what he can do and that he didn’t do it.

the us team was awful but to be honest i didn’t expect much…….how sad is that. some time in my life time i would like to see the us make it to the semis. i’m 40 so they don’t have much time LOL

lampard, gerrard, crouch(even if he plays well, just looks so awkward)ronaldinho, and many more, sven is a cool calm character but whats with bruce arena? he looked totally bored and seemed like he was too important to have to watch his team lose!!…. on the upside, owen hargreaves! fantastic! england could use a few more like him, and special mention to zidane, seems to play better now than 10+ years ago,

Definatley the entire Brazilian team. In fact, i shouldn’t even use the words BRAZIL and TEAM in the same sentence because the level of teamwork and unity as a team (which soccer is all about) obviously wasn’t there, and neither was the passion. Nike made the ‘play a beautiful game’ slogan about the Brazilian team prior to the world cup, but they disgraced that title by playing far from beautiful football. All i saw was a group of very overrated INDIVIDUALS playing for themselves. Even Ronaldinho, who gets people excited whenever he touches the ball wasn’t able to produce anything special at all, we even saw the famous Ronnie smile wiped off his face in frustration with his teammates. Sure, Brazil won their group in ordinary fashion, but when it finally came to facing good quality opposion they crumbled and fell.

Ronaldinho is the world’s best and we all know it.Had the coach allow him to play as free as he’d have liked to, Brazil would have done better, even when the other players were lacking in team effort; they were just too complacent, but you must understand that Ronaldinho is not the whole team- he is only one player.
And….I was gutten to see that one particular player was adjusting his bloody socks when that goal was scored by France!
    We still luv you, Ronaldinho!!!!!
