Big Question: Which Team will Score the Most Goals in Group Play?

By: WC Bob | May 30th, 2006 | 30 Comments »

You’ve looked the groups. You’ve predicted who is going to win each group and which teams will win all three of their games. You’ve determined which group is the most exciting. Now it is time for you to look again at the pairings and to determine which of the teams is going to score the most goals during its first three games.

Go ahead, and share your prediction with the rest of the universe. While you are at it, tell us how many goals you expect that top-scoring team to finish with in group play. Everybody is taking a guess. You should too.

Its either Germany or its England..
They have got easy groups and will dominate them..
Brazil doesnt have an easy group with Croatia, Japan and Australia
I’ll opt for England

England I hope. They were top scorers at Euro 2004.

I think Portugal will, based on the history of games between them and Angola. :-)

Are you guys serious, or trying to make this question harder than it is??? With opponents of Croatia Japan and Australia…its obvious, there can only be one answer.

I think the Czech Republic has enough firepower to score a lot of goals.Yeah I know they’re playing Italy’s defense but i think that game will end up in a shootout and the U.S and Ghana defenses really don’t inspire me much.

England, Poland or Netherlands. I think that’s obvious.

Germany and Ukraine. Easiest groups. Ukraine plays Tunesia and Saudi-Arabia…

You really have to love those Americans. Ec Aclantista, since when did group matches end up in shootouts?

Some of the realistic guesses here were Portugal, Brazil and Germany, even though Brazil have a slightly tougher task when it comes to goalscoring, adn Portugal will only manage to rain on Angola.

England: most certainly not. They just aren’t a high-scoring team, and especially not against the South American defence of Paraguay and the solid Scandinavian wall of Sweden.

Spain, I don’t really think so. Aragones has only got three strikers and a bag full of defenders. I don’t think he’s going in for the goals. Besides, Ukraine won’t be letting anything in (maybe just the one).

Germany have the best opportunity, but the question is, will they take it?

i believe in group A germany will be the top scoring team. sweden will score the most in group B. Obviously Argentina will score the most goals in group C. Portugal will get the most goals in group D. italy will score most in group E. brazil will be top scoring team in group F. group G will be lead in scoring by france and in group H ukraine will get the most goals.

come on…with the kind of fire power present on the Brazil side, i dont care who they play. i could see Brazil putting up 5+ on Australia and Japan.

Kaizer C.,

I’m with OPKO. These boards have enough room and material for a wide variety of opinion and comments.

But streams of profanity should not be used, or condoned. Please refrain from using such language.

Thank you.

unfortunatly it will be germany, despite their lack of world class players. portugal have a tough opponent in mexico and germany are opponentless in their own backyard

I think a lot of people have overlooked the home-field advantage. I still think Brazil will score the most goals, but Germany can easily turn an early lead into a blowout once the crowd really gets going.

If pekermen goes with an offensive lineup then it will be Argentina. Can you imagnine Riquelme feeding passes to Crespo , Tevez and Messi. Unfortunately I think Pekermen will use two defensive mids so it will not happen.

Juninho,

Stevie G is not the goal scoring machine that Lampard is. Expect to see Lampard arriving into the penalty area late from set pieces and tucking a few away, as well as some trade mark edge of the box shots. However, Gerrad will probably do all the hard work before hand :) And in reference to the question, Brazil can be the only top scorers, look at their damn group! A managers dream!

1.) Portugal
2.) England
3.) Brazil
4.) Germany
5.) Argentina

Sweden.
could put 5 past Trinidad and Tobago, 3 past Paraguay (who are rumoured to be playing attacking), and maybe 2 against England. 10….Thats exaggerated, but relistically they could get 8. May have a few scored against them too.
